With MAXroam’s New SIM, You Can Kiss AT&T Goodbye And Head To Europe With Your iPad
Posted on May 14, 2010 | No Comments
One of the best things about opting to get the 3G version of the iPad is that it's completely unlocked. You don't have to do anything that voids the warranty to get it to work with any GSM Micro SIM. In the U.S., that's not that useful since the only major GSM carriers are Apple partner AT&T and T-Mobile. But this means you can use the iPad 3G around the world even though Apple doesn't have agreements with other carriers yet.
And today, Cubic Telecom is launching what it says is the first iPad 3G SIM card that will work across Europe (others have announced plans, but their's is actually launching). The card, sold under the brand MAXroam, costs €75 (about $95) and comes pre-loaded with 50 MB of data. With this SIM, you'll be able to use the iPad 3G across Europe when the device goes on sale outside of the U.S. on May 28. Or you can get one from the U.S. now and use this SIM. Again, it's unlocked, so it will work.

Meganet’s Dominator I snoops on four GSM convos at once, fits in your overnight bag
Posted on May 10, 2010 | No Comments"Dominator I" sounds more like a monster truck than a collection of small boxes that collectively erase 20 years of relatively secure wireless phone service, doesn't it? Alas, what you're looking at here is a convenient, plug-and-play solution for exploiting the hard work the world's hacking community has put into cracking the A5/1 encryption used on GSM networks in Europe and the US over the past few years. The system consists of two nondescript white boxes, two directional antennas that you'll point in the direction of your victim, and a laptop that you can use to get a glimpse at all of the phones currently connected to your nearest cell site and record up to four active calls simultaneously -- and if you're more of the text messaging type, Dominator I's got you covered there, too, with full access to SMS. The company claims that the system was "declassified only last week" and is completely undetectable both by the operator and the end user, putting it in this rare nexus of "awesome" and "completely terrifying." It can't do the 128-bit A5/3 used in UMTS, but now that it's been cracked in a somewhat practical way, we're sure the Dominator II can't be far behind. Follow the break for Meganet's video of the system in action.Continue reading Meganet's Dominator I snoops on four GSM convos at once, fits in your overnight bag

Samsung (Bada-Powered) Wave to Launch in North and South America?
Posted on May 4, 2010 | No Comments
Samsung may be a little crazy to create their own OS when Android is free, powerful, and popular, but that doesn't mean that I'm not at least a little curious about what the new OS may bring.
On that note, you may be interested to hear that the first of Samsung's Bada-powered phones -- the Samsung Wave 8500 -- may be making its way over from Europe to come visit your hometown*.

The US might finally get the black Wii
Posted on April 27, 2010 | No Comments
Okay, this isn't even funny anymore. Why the hell isn't the black Wii available in the states? It has been available in Japan for almost nine months and about six months in Europe. That's just crazy. Previously Nintendo even stated that it had no plans on releasing a Wii in any other color besides white in America. But that stance might have changed.

Nintendo 3DS to be available this October instead of early next year?
Posted on April 20, 2010 | No Comments
Nintendo might be fast-tracking its upcoming 3DS. Apparently one UK video game industry source stated to CVG that the 3D gaming system will launch this coming October, well before the 2011 date we previously heard. The goal here is to get the system to market prior to the Christmas shopping madness.

Apple to Europe: Zut alors! iPad isn’t arriving until May
Posted on April 14, 2010 | No Comments
Because of the rapacious greed of Americans, those in the Euro-zone will not have their iPads until May, at least according to a short release by Apple. Blaming the popularity of the iPad in the US (and potentially some issues with Wi-Fi) , European pre-orders will not arrive in your charming town or hameau until May 10. This goes for the iPad 3G version as well.
Apple, always one to toot their own trompette, hoped that Europe is happy to know that the iPad is a "runaway success." Cold comfort, I say.

Sprint shakes things up, revamps their refund policy into something awesome
Posted on March 31, 2010 | No CommentsHey, Sprint. Whatever changed recently, whoever you hired to save you from the downward spiral you’re in: keep doing it, and give that person a raise. Sony’s new clock radio shines (on the wall)
Posted on March 23, 2010 | No Comments
Sony announced a new clock radio today, the enticing named ICF-C717PJ, the latest in a long line of consumer electronics. The ICF-C717PJ has a few tricks up it's proverbial sleeve however, including a thermometer and the ability to project the time on the wall or ceiling.

Darth Vader, C-3PO, Yoda, and Han Solo will soon yell at you for making a wrong turn and advise you to make the next legal U-turn on your TomTom device. The company just announced plans to out the voice options in Europe and, well, they are simply awesome. Right now Darth Vader is the only one available, but the other three will drop later this summer with C-3PO coming in June, Yoda in July, and Han Solo in August. It's too bad that the voices only seem to be available in Europe market, but maybe there are plans in the works to out them in the states as well.
More importantly, may the fourth be with you and click through for Darth Vader's TomTom recording session. It's worth your time.
Here's a surprisingly green idea from a hotel in Copenhagen. The ultra-modern Crowne Plaza Copenhagen Towers has set up two stationary bicycles and attached them to generators, with an iPhone connected to the handlebars. Time to work for that dinner!
For some people, buying up iPads in the US in bulk and selling them in their
