Video gallery: Hitachi’s humanoid robot EMIEW2 in action

Hitachi has recently shown a new version of its humanoid robot EMIEW2 (Excellent Mobility and Interactive Existence as Workmate2), which can scoot around on broken ground (the robot handles bumps that are up to 1.5cm high), recognize and distinguish between different human voices and converse with people.

Android 2.2 build FRF72 for Nexus One finally leaks

Its existence has been an on-again, off-again rumor for over a week now, but it looks like a new build of Android 2.2 Froyo for the Nexus One -- FRF72 -- is very real. It finally leaked in the past few hours, we've tested it on a Nexus One of our own, and as far as we can tell, it's straight-up legit. Get it if you dare -- it's up on Google's official servers right now, but if it's pulled, we've no doubt it'll be floating around on a bunch of mirrors ad nauseam. G'luck to ya, folks!

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

Oops! HTC Droid Incredible takes snapshots of sites you visit, hangs on to them after a hard reset

Thinking of selling your Droid Incredible? If you're a mob-boss, peruser of the freaky-deaky, or someone who visits websites with sensitive data on their handset, you might want to hold off. Turns out, the Droid Incredible is snapping shots of the sites you visit for use with the built-in Bookmarks widget. That, in itself, isn't a big deal; there are a dozen traces of every website you visit on just about any device, mobile or not. The unfortunate part is just how hard it is to get rid of these ones.

Verizon makes the Droid X official a few days earlier than expected

The Android arena is a tough one to play in, man. One manufacturer might have the baddest handset on the block one week, only to have the competition release a superior monster-of-a-phone a week later. The rate at which these things are being cranked out doesn’t give the carriers — or their customer — any [...]

Orange slips out a few Samsung Galaxy Apollo details

Orange's UK outpost has fessed up to the Galaxy Apollo's existence just as it started showing up on an official Samsung site, saying that the Android-powered phone -- a handset that looks a bit like the South Korean market M120S -- is "coming soon." Beyond that, we don't have much to go on, but we now know that it'll have a 3 megapixel cam with autofocus, FM radio, 3.2-inch display, and "up to 1GB external memory," which we're pretty sure is a typo or misunderstanding of some sort; in all likelihood, they mean it's got 1GB internal and it can support up to 32GB external. Or so we hope, anyhow. No word on price or a release date just yet.

  • Be thankful that AT&T is looking out for our best interests

Be thankful that AT&T is looking out for our best interests

Today I am proud to be an earthling. AT&T has announced that it will finally lift the burden of unlimited data plans for smartphones. No longer will I have to say to myself, "I am tired of trying to make the most of what I pay for." Like a wise king, AT&T has decided for us, its loyal subjects, that all we need really in life, in the totality of existence, is 2GB of data per month—or, for some of us, only 200MB of data! Either one! You see, AT&T simply knows more than any of us could ever hope to know. Thank you, AT&T, for being a shining beacon of hope in our otherwise bleak, bleak world.

Nokia N8 on its way to Vodafone UK

Vodafone UK now have the Nokia N8 on their "Coming Soon" page, so it seems a pretty safe bet that Nokia's new top-end Symbian ^3 powered handset will indeed be "Coming Soon" to Vodafone UK. You can probably also safely bet that the phone is "Coming Soon" to other carriers, too... but I don't have a handy reference page for any other operators. Sorry.

BlackBerry 9670 caught trying to justify its existence on video

Look, we'll admit that we may have gone a little hard on the BlackBerry 9670 the first time we saw it -- but seriously, could you blame us? Thanks to the 8200 series, RIM's developed a reputation for making gargantuan clamshells, and the 9670 certainly doesn't seem to buck that trend -- in fact, it's very likely even wider on account of its full QWERTY keyboard, and you can tell from this new video that it doesn't make any apologies about its thick waistline, either. That being said, the phone seems to look just a smidge sexier now than it did before, though it's still not necessarily clear why you'd pick it over a 9650 or 9700 when it's essentially the same size folded. Guess we'll know when -- or if, rather -- RIM launches this thing. Follow the break for video.

Amid the flurry of news surrounding the next-gen iPhone revelations, another little tidbit of information about iPhone OS 4.0 has made it's way out: it seems that Facebook contact and event integration may be a new system feature. Sweet merciful fates, the continued existence and use of Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 is getting as much publicity as the Linux-vs-Windows debate. If you're interested in this story, and we all know you're interested or these stories wouldn't keep popping up, there's an interesting examination of the reasons for MSIE6's prolonged existence online for your perusal. The usual suspects -- slow-moving change-averse mega-corporations on protracted refresh cycles, cheapskates, and ignorance -- are rounded out by at least one surprising addition.
