Hey, Sirius XM: Can you get your act together and fix your online stream? That would be neat.

Here's a “shout out” to the fine people at Sirius XM. You pay for a service with the expectation that it, you know, occasionally works as advertised, right? Not Sirius XM, the company that's fine with people overworking for years so long as they don't ask for a marginal(in the grand scheme of Howard Stern and Oprah and MLB contracts) raise! How many times per week does the online stream die? I'm thinking at least three to five times.

  • Samsung Behold II fails to fulfill Android 2.0 promise, jilted users contemplating lawsuit (video)

Samsung Behold II fails to fulfill Android 2.0 promise, jilted users contemplating lawsuit (video)

When Samsung launched its Behold II with Android 1.5 on board, it made something of a big deal about the fact the handset will be upgradeable to version 2.0 when that software became available. Such a big deal that it even put the promise of an OTA update into a promo video -- a video that subsequently got yanked as the company realized it wasn't going to be able to stick to its word. Well, that evidence has now been tracked down (see it after the break), and all those buyers who were left with a Cupcake in lieu of a promised Eclair have hardly forgotten about it either. Samsung's position varies between the boilerplate "we don't have a future release date," to a stone cold "the SGH-T939 will never qualify for the Android 2X update," depending on which rep you speak to. The disappointed users have therefore resorted to putting a petition together, which asks that either a refund, replacement Android 2.x handset, or a real update be provided to them, and concludes that "legal action will be taken" if Samsung fails them. That's not exactly unreasonable , given the unfulfilled expectation -- Samsung, what say you?

    [Thanks, Yitzhak]

  • Review: SugarSync for the iPad

    Review: SugarSync for the iPad

I've been wondering how, exactly, I'll be able to do work on my iPad. With the assistance of programs like Dropbox and SugarSync, it is possible to cobble together a workflow that doesn't drive me crazy. When I last looked at SugarSync the service was in it's infancy and I found it slightly lacking. All of my concerns, two years ago, have been address and now you have a fully versioned storage system that you can use to feasibly upload a plethora of files including, but not limited to, MP3s, videos, and documents. Audio and video files, for the most part, played natively on the iPad. However, if you need to transfer odd formats or edit Office or iWork documents (you can view them just fine) you'll need to email the files to yourself and them open them in Pages. This two step process, while upsetting to those afraid of more than one step, is frustrating at worst and a non-issue at best.

Would a lower price change your opinion of the iPad?

Rumors are swirling that Apple *might* lower the iPad’s price shortly after launch in the same way that the iPhone’s price dropped a couple months after its launch. This would only be if consumers aren’t buying into the iPad hype and sales fall short of expectation. But does a lower iPad price make the tablet [...]

First reviews of Avatar appear, but stay away

So Avatar premiered tonight in London and apparently nearly everyone loved it. Twitter is aflutter with first impressions and even Drudge's main headline proclaims the film is "Oscar Bound." But here's the thing. Don't read the early reviews. Just know that so far it's living up to its $237 million expectation. The last thing you need to do is go read one of the reviews raving about the movie and spoil all your fun.

Review: eMotion Social-Connect Digital Photo Frame plus a giveaway

I've suffered much when it comes to digital photo frames. I purchased a number of frames from multiple manufacturers for multiple members of my family with the expectation that I would, for time immemorial, be able to email said frames images, thus allowing family members the opportunity to see new photos without having to drag them over from the computer. Alas and alack each one of these frames (Damn you, SmartParts!) has failed and their attendant services have gone out of business. I'm an optimistic fellow, however, and they say digital picture frame usage after being burned by picture frames in the past is a triumph of hope over experience. Well fool me again, picture frames, because I'm going to talk about the eMotion Social-Connect Digital Photo Frame with LifeGoRound.

December 17: Tron Legacy in IMAX 3D

When in doubt, make a sequel. When in doubt in the year 2009, tack on 3D. That's the mentality of Hollywood these days—“remakes” are another in thing—and it looks like will be in theaters on December 17, 2010Tron: Legacy . Considering my only knowledge of Tron comes from that one Simpsons episode, I'm not going to pretend to be excited. But maybe some of you are!

Always being ‘connected’ is ruining our way of life

It sure is great to live in the developed world. No having to worry about having enough to eat or finding clean drinking water or anything like that. Nope: we freak out when Twitter momentarily goes down, or when we can't use certain software on our phones. Or, conversely, we complain about the undue influence certain technologies have over our lives. We're all over the place.

  • Why Nokia and Sony Ericsson are failing

Why Nokia and Sony Ericsson are failing

Fosfor posted an incredible look at what has befallen phone manufacturers and why they're all faltering. Mikael heeded over to Nokia and Sony Ericsson's sites and tried to list all of the models available. Nokia had 44 and S-E had 70. He then points out that there are three iPhones at best and in reality there are only two. It costs money to manufacture and sell things. While many of the phones on Nokia's site may be out of production, they still show them to users as if they were available. This is wrong-headed and ridiculous. The manufacturers will complain that carriers make them offer so many phones. Carrier A wants a cheap phone to sell to grandmas in Latvia while Carrier B wants a fancy phone to sell to the rich in South Africa. Cry me a river. Are we really that neophiliac that every country and every carrier has to have something a little different? Do we really have to bend our desires to what companies that essentially sell the transmission of bits over radio waves want?

  • Update: Pushfix for Jailbroken iPhones caused Push broadcast problems

Update: Pushfix for Jailbroken iPhones caused Push broadcast problems

We have an update on the AIM push problem we wrote about this morning. The problem only affects jailbroken iPhones 2 and 3G running the homebrew app Pushfix. If you are in this sad number please restore to the original firmware or risk seeing your IMs spread far and wide. Pushfix is a homebrew app that "repairs" push functionality on Jailbroken apps. The iPhone Dev Team, the same folks who unlocked the iPhone in the first place, created it to help us lowly users but they left a fatal flaw in the program. It seems they used a single UDID - Unique Device ID - for the fix. This in turn creates a sort of broadcast network of multiple jailbroken phones running Pushfix that report back to the push servers with the same UDID. The result? When you push to one, you push to all.

    Well-played, Mr. Wales. Well-played.

Just got this email. It's a bit presumptuous considering the common expectation is that you don't author your own Wikipedia entry. Basically Jimmy is asking me to become a fan of his Facebook page but does Jimmy really need fans? And does he have to launch such a personal appeal? He's a heck of a guy, I'm sure, but what's in it for me?
