How-to: stay connected while traveling internationally

It's a harsh reality that every avid traveler faces, and unless you're fortunate enough to have been born in a generation where you're not expected to check your inbox every half-hour, glance over Twitter updates every 7.23 minutes seconds and tell the world where you're at this very moment via Foursquare, you've probably found yourself wondering how on Earth you're going to remain connected once your swipe that passport and leave the comfy confines of a native network. Staying connected while traveling abroad is no easy task, and while the internet may feel ubiquitous to tech-savvy smartphone owners who remain planted within the borders of their home nation, the world wide web suddenly becomes a whole lot less easy to track down once you plop down on foreign soil. Looking to splurge on a little international travel this summer, but can't figure out how you're going to (affordably) upload those Twitpics and YouTube videos once you get there? Fret not, young jetsetter -- we've got the keys to keeping you connected whilst overseas just beyond the break.

HP developing “next-gen” wristwatch for the military

Printed circuitry on plastic isn't very new, but what is interesting is that HP is commoditizing it and creating wristwatches using display elements and chips etched right onto a roll of soft plastic. The printed faces can also contain solar cells to power the watch.
HP Labs has been developing a process to "print" the plastic display components for 10 years. The company originally intended to use the technology in portable memory drives, but creating larger screens out of plastic turned out to be a more economical and feasible venture, Taussig said.

So surveillance cameras are actually good for something

Brickhouse Security in New York sells lots and lots of cameras. They even have one hidden in a teddy bear and they've got this crazy one inside a clock. Anyway, they were filming their office one evening when a frayed vacuum cord started to burn. Things would have been fine but management decided to move a file cabinet over the burn and then blame it on cigarette smoke. Boy were their faces red when they whipped out some footage from the scene, catching the nefarious manager in the act.

The Russian Mr. Wizard would like you to suck on his fumes

As far as I can tell this is some begelled Russian Mr. Wizard showing off the production of mist from a melting piece of dry ice. While the mist is essentially carbon dioxide it's probably not the best thing to give to kids. However, he does say "Nie boj sie," meaning "Don't be afraid," when he shoots a stream of it into everyone's faces, which suggests he's been huffing this stuff for years with no ill-effects. Why? Триглав only knows.
