Steam shows that Mac gaming still has a long ways to go

Steam is finally available on OS X. That's awesome. But the platform still has a ways to go before a Mac is a viable gaming alternative to a PC. One look at Steam's Featured PC Games and Featured Mac Games will tell you that.

  • Let’s welcome Palm to the land of the living dead

Let’s welcome Palm to the land of the living dead

I’ve been bearish on Palm as a standalone platform since they launched last May and today the sadness-tinged chickens have come home to roost: Palm is now part of HP and, like the iPaq before it, the Pre and Pixi will slowly be subsumed into the company’s line-up. In fact, I couldn’t be happier for Palm. [...]

  • Apple prepping a Mac mini with HDMI? And Blu-ray?

Apple prepping a Mac mini with HDMI? And Blu-ray?

The Mac mini has long been a HTPC fan favorite. It's small, quiet, yet powerful. But it doesn't have an HDMI port, which makes many Apple clowns sad. But hold on, a rumor just popped up that states that Apple is working on a Mac mini with *gasp* an HDMI port!

  • Apple may or may not be testing USB 3.0 controllers

Apple may or may not be testing USB 3.0 controllers

USB 3.0 is the future and, well, Apple likes to be on the edge of technology so it only makes sense that the company would be at least looking into implementing the new interface sometime real soon. After all HP is already shipping USB 3.0 in its Envy 15 series and that can't sit right with Apple fanboys. But all we know right now comes from a Digitimes report that basically states that Genesys Logic is denying reports that its providing Apple with controllers. So yeah, we don't really know anything.

  • Nokia’s 6700 slide and 7230 make up in price what they lack in excitement

Nokia’s 6700 slide and 7230 make up in price what they lack in excitement

No one's going to accuse Nokia of going after the high end, the fanboys and girls, or the fashionistas with its latest pair, but they've got at least two things going for 'em: 3G and blowout pricing. Starting on the left, the S60-powered 6700 slide marks a distinct break for the company, shedding its tradition of Xpress-on cover compatibility for permanent shells available in six loud shades; it's supposedly pretty tiny (Nokia touts that it'll fit "in even the smallest pocket or bag") and still manages to offer up a 5 megapixel cam with Carl Zeiss optics. Next, the 7230 (pictured right) kicks up the style a notch (okay, really, they just rounded the edges and chromed them up) and offers a 3.2 megapixel camera to go along with its 2.4-inch display. Look for them both to hit retail in the first quarter of next year for around €160 and €100 ($240 and $150) respectively.

  • The HP Envy 15 Beats Edition blazes its own path

The HP Envy 15 Beats Edition blazes its own path

The HP Envy 15 Beats Edition is noice. Look at that beast. You have to respect the matte black on black styling. Apple fanboys can’t say anything about this edition of the HP Envy looking like their MBPs. The Beats Edition looks better. Too bad it suffers from all the downfalls found in the Envy [...]

Atlona steps up to the plate, produces DVI to Mini DisplayPort converter

Apple left out a large customer base when it released the Mini DisplayPort only 24-inch Cinema Display. Suddenly computers with only a DVI output couldn't play nicely with Apple's top monitor. Tears have certainly been shed and at least a few fanboys probably called foul, but until now, there was nothing that could be done besides replace the computer’s graphic card which isn't an option for older notebooks.

  • Is the Nokia Booklet 3G just an overpriced netbook? This promo video says so.

Is the Nokia Booklet 3G just an overpriced netbook? This promo video says so.

Everyone, you can breath easy, the Nokia Booklet 3G is here. It's got an Intel Atom, 120GB HDD, 1GB of RAM, WiFi, HDMI, and 3G. So why the hell does it cost so much? Nokia has set the price of the 3G model - is there a non-3G model? - at 600 Euros, which is roughly $853 USD. That's a lot for a netbook. Especially for one that's basically a cloned version of the Acer Aspire One 3G 10.1-inch. Even the official promo video doesn't present a strong case of what sets this netbook apart.
