The Casio EX-G1 is for the fashion-conscious outdoorsy types
Posted on November 18, 2009 | No Comments
A quick glance at the Casio EX-G1 doesn't revel that the camera is a rugged-type model. It's just too good looking. But then you might start to notice that the dials are recessed and reinforced and the case seems like it could work underwater. (it can) It's just that Casio managed to out a 12.1 MP ruggedized camera that's actually a looker.

HUBO will tear you limb from limb
Posted on November 13, 2009 | No CommentsHUBO Walking! HUBO Taichi! HUBO with sword! HUBO aiming for your heart and lungs! This clever Korean robot won’t kill you (yet) but it does move in a surprisingly life-life fashion. Seriously: how far are we until we’ve hit Surrogrates territory (an actually OK movie, by the way). -
More Vibram Five Fingers information than you particularly require
Posted on October 29, 2009 | No Comments
We at CrunchGear are rarely at the forefront of fashion. However, once I reviewed the Vibram Five Fingers I knew I was onto something. Thankfully, there are other people out there who don't think my love for foot gloves is not strange or weird. In fact, people wear these crazy shoes everywhere they go!
Take a look at BirthdayShoes.com. Editor Justin Owings gets testimonials from all over the world including folks who have run marathons in these things and other folks who stand around in India wearing them. Heck, even Sergey Brin is down.
Video after the jump.

The new Canon 1D Mark IV can shoot incredible 1080p video and here’s the proof
Posted on October 20, 2009 | No Comments
The Canon 1D Mark IV is finally official, all 16MP, 1080p video shooting of it. The $5000 DSLR is packed with the very best of from Canon. In their usual fashion, DPReview has more info than you probably wanna know about the camera. Besides, you already know that it's kick ass. But remember the dude that shot the first video with the 5D Mark II. Yeah, Canon hooked up with him to do a short with this camera and the results are amazing. Click through to see what I mean.

Apple to release a crap-ton of new products today?
Posted on October 20, 2009 | No Comments
Today could be a big Apple day. John Gruber and Dan Lyons both think that we might just see a plethora of new Apple products today. Exciting, I know. These new models would include new iMacs, plastic Macbooks, Mac Minis, 2nd generation Mighty Mouse that isn't called a Mighty Mouse, and some sort of multitouch desktop gadget thingy. Yeah, all that is suppose to come out today even though Apple doesnt' have a press conference on the books and Steve Jobs knows I don't really want to work that hard today. Yeah, we talk.

Microsoft recovers ‘most, if not all’ Sidekick customer data
Posted on October 15, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Announcements
Steve Ballmer must have busted out his secret stash of magic dust, as Microsoft has just come out with the announcement that it has recovered "most, if not all, customer data" that was lost during the recent Sidekick debacle. Following the wildly embarassing fiasco attributed to a "system failure that created data loss in the core database and the back-up," T-Mobile and Redmond have "rebuilt the system component by component" and now promise to restore data to affected users in the most expedient fashion possible. Guess that means you won't be getting $100 from T-Mobile for losing your Tetris high scores after all.

HTC gets fancy with designer Tattoo covers
Posted on October 13, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: HTC, Accessories, Android
We knew the Tattoo would be just a little funkier than the rest of the devices in HTC's Android line (though you've got to admit that the pink Hero is pretty freakin' funky), and that vision's now coming to fruition under a whole line of designer covers. Under the clever-but-obvious "Tattoo My HTC" and "Tattoo You" catchphrases, the company is now offering a selection of 15 replacement covers to spice up your sidearm for €11.99 (about $18) each -- and if you're not feeling any of them, you can design your own right from the comfort of HTC's site for €14.99 (about $22). That might seem outrageous for a battery cover, but the good news is that these aren't just pretty rear ends -- the covers replace both the front and back of the Tattoo for a whole-body makeover that's sure to impress your fashion-conscious friends.

RIM goes pale, shows white Curve 8520 for T-Mobile and Bold for AT&T
Posted on October 8, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets, RIM, ATT, T-Mobile, GSM, EDGE, HSDPA, UMTS
We know it's after Labor Day, but that doesn't seem to be stopping RIM from rolling out a couple BlackBerrys in bright white this season -- and who are we to accuse Waterloo of a fashion faux-pas? First up, the Curve 8520 on T-Mobile is now available, complementing the black and "frost" versions that have already landed; perhaps more interesting, though, is direct confirmation from RIM that there'll be a white version Bold hitting AT&T in mid-October. With the Bold 2 seemingly around the corner, recoloring the current model seems like an odd move -- but if they can continue to sell the Bold at a moderate discount a la iPhone 3G / 3GS, there might yet be a strategy there. The version RIM had on hand wasn't AT&T-branded, but... you know, just imagine the silkscreened logo and customized wallpaper, and you'll get the idea.

Tonight’s spacewalk is still on even though space junk is headed right for them
Posted on September 3, 2009 | No CommentsI don’t care what you say. Astronauts have balls of steel. They strap themselves onto a rocket, shit in a vacuum, and are risking death by space junk tonight. Apparently a new external ammonia tank for the ISS is important enough to risk getting it by a part of an old European rocket. NASA says that [...] -

Art Lebedev Turns Utensils into Giant Folding Knife
Posted on June 10, 2009 | No CommentsArt Lebedev does two things well. It comes up with wonderfully inventive product designs which may or may not ever see production. And it adds the letters “us” to the end of everything to make it sound like the kind of ancient Latin spoken in the Asterix books. The Swissarmius does both. Based on the Victorinox [...] -
Ericsson’s fashion-forward W30 series 3G routers get detailed
Posted on May 30, 2009 | No CommentsIt's not every day that we use "Ericsson," "sexy," and "3G router" all in the same sentence, so you can understand our excitement upon learning everything there is to know about the company's new W30 and W35 models. Calling it "3G" might be an understatement, actually -- these bad boys will do a purely theoretical 7.2Mbps down and 2.0Mbps up on three hair-raising HSPA bands in addition to quadband EDGE. Both models offer 802.11b / g and four Ethernet ports for routing that high-speed WWAN data however you see fit, and the W35 ups the ante by throwing two RJ11 ports on board for VoIP connectivity. The W35 looks to be shipping in early June, so clear a nice little feng shui spot on your kitchen counter where it can sit, get friendly compliments from the neighbors, and enhance your calm.
