AT&T to nearly double early termination fees on smart phones
Posted on May 21, 2010 | No CommentsThinking about snatching up an AT&T iPhone, unlocking it, breaking contract, and selling it on eBay for a small profit? Yeah, that’s not gonna work anymore. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that AT&T’s planning on doubling the early termination fees for smartphone contracts from $175 up to an oh-so-painful $325, with the fee dropping by $10 [...] -
Don’t cry for the workers at Foxconn
Posted on May 20, 2010 | No CommentsI’ve been interested in gadget manufacturing for a while now and, as I reported a few months ago, things are pretty bad but they’ve been worse. Now, however, we’re seeing clusters of suicides at Foxconn as well as an undercover “report” from Foxconn’s “Hell Factory.” I’m calling bull. First, consider that Foxconn has 400,000 employees in [...] -
Verizon misses the point of the Kin, prices it out of its market
Posted on May 5, 2010 | No CommentsWell, there goes that. The Microsoft Kins seemed like a good system. Online reviews are somewhat positive, at least most say the Kin shows potential. But it doesn't matter. Kin One and Kin Two are likely going to be the only ones of their kind and will only be around for a short while. Verizon killed the platform when it decided that these feature phones need an expensive smartphone data plans.

Hands-on with the T-Mobile MyTouch 3G Slide
Posted on May 3, 2010 | No Comments
In a perfect world, every phone would be like the T-Mobile MyTouch Slide. It's small, it's light, it has a keyboard, and it's easy enough for almost everyone to use even if it's running one of the most powerful mobile OSes out there. Built by HTC to T-Mobile's specifications, the MyTouch Slide with full QWERTY keyboard is, in actuallity, one of the best feature phones I've seen in a long time.

Apple beats Moto
Posted on April 30, 2010 | No Comments
Well if that don't beat all. Apple sold 8.8 million iPhones while Motorola sold 8.5 million last quarter. The crazy part is that those are all, obviously, iPhones while Motorola's entire line consists of smart and feature phones. Including Droid and Devour.
9to5 notes:
Apple has eclipsed Motorola as the biggest mobile phone maker in the US, while fresh research tells us iPhone-driven global smartphone sales grew 50 per cent in the first quarter. Meanwhile, over half a million iPhones sold in just five months in South Korea.

Video: Discarded Motorola RAZR3 Prototype Gives a Glimpse Into The Moto That Could Have Been
Posted on April 30, 2010 | No Comments
Back in 2008, after milking the poor cash cow to death, Motorola decided to can their once crazy-popular RAZR series of phones. A good thing, too, as their Android line of phones are really quite good, and have helped them climb out of the dreaded red end.
But today over on Slash Gear, a prototype RAZR3 has risen from the grave to show us a twisted world where Motorola feature phones were the hotness, and smart phones were only for the geeks and their pocket protectors (like me...). It's quite chilling.

Verizon Palm Pre and Pixi Plus price slashed, Mobile Hotspot goes free
Posted on April 1, 2010 | No CommentsBe still, my pounding heart! In what is quite possibly the worst day to choose to do so (we promise its not a joke!), Verizon has just lopped a ton of cash off the entry fee for the Palm Pre Plus and Pixi Plus. Better yet, they just made Mobile Hotspot, the add-on service that [...] -
