TOPIO Dio: Meet Vietnam’s first service robot

Tosy (warning: the site takes a long time to load), Vietnam's first - and only - robot venture, has been flying under the radar since the debut of TOPIO, their table tennis-playing humanoid, in 2007. The company was established as early as 2002 and has been mainly manufacturing toy robots since. Samsung i5801 makes a cameo, script reads ‘entry-level Android 2.1 device’

    INT. APARTMENT - DAYTIME

An unseemly Samsung touchscreen device opens the scene, being held by one HOWARD CHUI. Its size is comparable to the Galaxy Spica but something doesn't feel as momentous here. Background is calm, likely the top of a table. He improvises from the script.

    HOWARD (improvising)
What we're looking at is the Samsung i5801, an entry-level Android 2.1 phone sporting a slightly customized UI. The device sports a 240 x 400 (possibly 240 x 480) screen and a 3 megapixel camera. Storage is around 300MB built-in but supports MicroSDHC. Connectivity-wise, there's Wi-Fi, GPS, and possibly Bluetooth 3.0. Pretty run of the mill, no word on price or release, but it's almost certain to target a much more cash-conscious section of the market.

People like mobile ads, says JiWire

JiWire has been watching mobile and in-app advertising, and says that "Advertisements in mobile applications are especially effective." Their new report, released today, "examines device use, consumer adoption of Wi-Fi and consumer preferences for mobile content and advertising delivery." Interesting take-aways from the report include the fact that iPhone has surpassed iPod Touch in number of ads delivered, and that the iPad has had a non-trivial effect on WiFi usage, indicating that people really do want to access content on-the-go but might not want to do so with a phone or a laptop.

eBay Sells 5,000-plus iPads, UAE Buyers Pay Highest Prices

Since iPad's launch, eBay has sold more than 5,300 units across the world, 65% abroad and 35% at home, according to data from eBay that spans from mid-March to mid-April. The UK dominated international sales, with 550 units sold, or roughly 15% of foreign sales. But buyers from the United Arab Emirates were willing to shell out the most cash, with the average buyer paying a hefty premium of $537 (!) for the 64GB version (more than enough to buy a bare bones 16GB Wi-Fi model). Cool infographic from eBay ahead.

Apple to Europe: Zut alors! iPad isn’t arriving until May

Because of the rapacious greed of Americans, those in the Euro-zone will not have their iPads until May, at least according to a short release by Apple. Blaming the popularity of the iPad in the US (and potentially some issues with Wi-Fi) , European pre-orders will not arrive in your charming town or hameau until May 10. This goes for the iPad 3G version as well. Apple, always one to toot their own trompette, hoped that Europe is happy to know that the iPad is a "runaway success." Cold comfort, I say.
