Nokia N8 meets Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, has a good time (video)

No, we're not revealing some great hidden feature here -- Nokias have been able to pair with Bluetooth devices since pretty much forever -- but throw a complete set of desktop implements together with the Finnish company's greatest new phone, and sparks of interest do fly. In this case, a pair of keen fellas have hooked a portable keyboard and a Logitech mouse up to the N8 and had some fun videotaping their exploits. If you're thinking this would make a pretty killer combination with the N8 plugged into an HDTV, well... you'd be right. Catch the video after the break.

Why haven’t our clichés been updated to better reflect today’s technology?

Our clichés need updating. "Axe to grind"? How many people still regularly use axes, axes that need grinding? Why not something like "hard drive to defrag"? "Best thing since sliced bread"? Why not "best thing since the iPad"? We are surrounded by technology, but our language still reflects life on the farm. Let's do this!

  • Motorola’s Jha: moving headquarters to Cali not a ‘driving priority’

Motorola’s Jha: moving headquarters to Cali not a ‘driving priority’

Rumors have run rampant that the head of Motorola's soon-to-be-independent Mobile Devices division, Sanjay Jha, has plans to high-tail back to the Californian home from whence he came (where his family still resides, coincidentally) once the split wraps up. That may still be the case, but it looks like it's not necessarily happening any time soon coming off comments this week from the dude himself. In comments to shareholders on Monday, Jha said that "the mobile devices headquarters is in [Chicago suburb] Libertyville, and that will continue at the point of the split," qualifying the statement by saying that he'd "evaluate [their] needs" afterward but that doesn't "know" that relocating the business "is a driving priority right now." Moving the business clearly has personal benefits for Jha -- not to mention likely brings a refreshed Motorola access to a greater pool of high-tech talent in the Valley -- but regardless of what happens, he says that he doesn't think the company will "dramatically change [its] space in Chicago." Might not be a bad idea to fly all the engineers away from those nasty Chicago winters for a couple months, anyway, right?

  • SketchNation: DIY iPad gaming plus a giveaway

SketchNation: DIY iPad gaming plus a giveaway

If you've dreamt all your life of blowing up your third-grade teacher with spitball guns, your prayers have been answered. SketchNation is a surprisingly odd game that allows you to select all of the sprites in gameplay. You can set your own character sprite (a spitball gun, for example), the sprites for the bullets or spitballs, and even set up a boss image (your third-grade teacher). You then fly through a hail of bullets until you beat the game. Apparently you can also blow up Walt Mossberg and David Pogue, for whatever reason. Those men are saints. Anyway, if you'd like to try it out, comment below. I'll send codes to five lucky, random readers. Viel Glück!
