A first? Muslim woman refuses to submit to airport body scan, not allowed to board flight
Posted on March 4, 2010 | No CommentsIt finally happened. A Muslim woman in Manchester refused to submit to a full-body airport body scanner and was thus barred from boarding her flight. She cited her Muslim faith, which might have been expected, as to why she refused to submit to the scan. I don't trust the Internet to react to this news with any aplomb whatsoever.

Let your geek flag fly with official Xmen TVs
Posted on March 2, 2010 | No CommentsWord has come down that Marvel has licensed some of their characters to TV builder RTC23. No, I’ve never heard of them either, but apparently someone has since they are now producing the official “ultimate comic book fan” television. The new TVs will be available in 22, 32, 42, and 55-inch versions, and feature custom splash [...] -
Swarming helicopters create 3D display
Posted on February 18, 2010 | No CommentsIf we’re going to be killed by swarming robots, they might as well look good doing it. Scientists at the MIT SENSEable City lab created a 3D display using tiny remote controlled helicopters that float in patterns in the air and light up, thereby creating a volumetric display. Called the Flyfire, it seems that this is [...] -
DIY: Six rotor helicopter
Posted on February 18, 2010 | No Comments
Adurino seems to be everywhere these days, particularly in the world of DIY. Take for example this helicopter project. Built by a German hobbyist with an inclination for projects related to flight, this 6 rotor helicopter is fast, stable, and extremely responsive. This is obviously not this particular hobbyists first experience with helicopters; he's actually built an 8 rotor version as well.

Android updates fly off the shelves; Motorola CLIQ up next in March?
Posted on February 10, 2010 | No CommentsAndroid updates appear to be getting thrown left and right recently, so it doesn’t surprise me that the Motorola CLIQ may be due for a tune-up. According to Boy Genius Report, the CLIQ will be getting Android 2.1 OS sometime in March. Perhaps it’s not soon enough for those CLIQ owners who are turning a [...] -
Warner Bros. looking to reboot Superman movie franchise. Again.
Posted on February 9, 2010 | No CommentsGet ready for another movie franchise re-boot! Yes, Warner Bros. wants to re-boot Superman, and it wants Christopher Nolan to sorta oversee the project, but not direct it. You'll recall that Mr. Nolan successfully re-booted Batman, the silliness of the second film notwithstanding. Money is money.

Review: Praesto Modern Fliegeruhr
Posted on January 25, 2010 | No Comments
In the vast pantheon of watches, the aviator is a timeless paragon of virtue and class. Traditionally given to folks who fly in planes (hence the term "aviator"), these watches were larger than standard watches and often had big crowns for easy winding. The IWC Big Pilots Watch is a classic in the form, with the clear, legible numbers and top triangular noon pip.
But, like great paintings, watches often stray from form, and often with positive results. If the Big Pilots Watch is "Whistler's Mother" then the Praesto Modern Fliegeruhr is Warhol's Campbell's Soup cans. At once this watch is an homage, a little work of art, and a sly dig at the stuffy establishment.

Dance, floating space robot, dance!
Posted on January 21, 2010 | No CommentsMake found these wonderful floating space robots designed to fly in formation in zero gravity. How do they do it? These things, called Spheres, use compressed air to spin in place – but not as fast as you see here. Obviously these things will eventually tell us that we can’t go outside the ship to [...] -
Garmin hops on the satellite imagery bus
Posted on January 19, 2010 | No Comments
Newsflash: birds see a LOT of stuff thanks to the fact that they can fly. Garmin wants to give you the same sensation (minus the flying part) with its new “BirdsEye Satellite and Aerial Imagery” feature, “an annual subscription service that gives users the option of loading highly-detailed photo-based maps to select Garmin handheld navigators,” according to a recent press release.

Unassuming cap sports hidden camcorder
Posted on December 31, 2009 | No Comments
Pardon me, miss? I’d just like to tell you that I think your hat is fly. Dope, even. Too bad you’ll never remember my face. Memorize it now and then lose me forever. Unless, of course, you’ve somehow got a camcorder hidden in that thing! That’s unlikely, as your hat is far too stylish to be a technology product.

Mother Russia plans to save us all from killer asteroid
Posted on December 30, 2009 | No Comments
Someone call Bruce Willis. Russia announced Wednesday that they are considering launching a spacecraft with the intention of altering its possibly earth-crushing trajectory to a less threatening one.
Fancy having your own hovercraft? Want one that'll take off and fly? Well a New Zealand man designed, built, and flies his very own flying hovercraft. The drawback - you have to launch and land from on the water in order to actually be able to fly.
