Toy Story 3 clearly quite popular, has $109 million opening weekend

It's safe to say that Toy Story is still Pixar's biggest, most beloved franchise. The third movie, which Biggs inexplicably reviewed the other day—should I review the new Roots album here?— took home some $109 million at the weekend. That's Pixar's biggest opening weekend ever. The other big, animated feature of the year, Shrek Forever After, only took home $71 million its first weekend.

    T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide review

Like it or not, T-Mobile has now officially turned its myTouch brand into an entire franchise, thanks to the addition of a second model and an entire line of styled accessories -- but it's not just about the hardware. Far from it, in fact: with the myTouch 3G Slide, the carrier has actually built a custom skin on top of HTC's Sense for Android 2.1, and all kidding aside, this phone represents one of the deepest carrier-customized experiences we've ever seen. Seeing how this phone arguably represents the true successor to the G1 -- T-Mobile's (and the world's) first retail Android device -- it's pretty important that they get this right, particularly considering how critical it is for a carrier's bottom line to capitalize on the meaty, profitable midrange of its smartphone lineup. Does the myTouch 3G Slide live up to the G1's good name? Read on.

Motorola releasing two new Droids, “leaks” notwithstanding

According to the WSJ, Motorola president Sanjay Jha said that “We will introduce new Droid products in the Verizon franchise.” This probably means something like the Droid Shadow that “appeared” in a toilet recently. We can also expect about a dozen new phones from Motorola this year, although not all of them will run Android. via Giz

T-Mobile slide deck chats up myTouch 3G Slide’s June 2 launch

After taking a look at this launch deck for T-Mobile's myTouch 3G Slide, it's becoming more obvious than ever that T-Mobile is taking the myTouch brand very seriously -- it's not just about a product, it's about an ongoing line of devices that all prescribe to the same socially-connected principles. In fact, with the effective loss of Sidekick to Verizon now that the ex-Danger team has thrown its weight behind Kin, you might even argue that the myTouch line is being positioned to take over where Sidekick left off, and that's evidenced when you see that they're referring to myTouch as a "franchise" throughout these slides. Follow the break for some of the highlights!

And now begins the BioShock MMO rumors

Any of y'all beat BioShock 2? Me neither. Played it for, eh, 20 minutes, then moved onto Napoleon: Total War. Don't worry, though: the game is on my "to do" list. Also on my "to-do" list: whinge about an MMO based on BioShock.

The Pokemon return: HeartGold and SoulSilver

So I got a random delivery today, and I was quite surprised to see it was from Nintendo. Even more surprising was when I opened the box and saw they had sent me the two latest Pokemon games, HeartGold and SoulSilver. What was even more interesting was when I started to read the enclosed literature that explained exactly what's new about these two games.

EA giving away free copies of classic Command & Conquer games

We're huge fans of Command & Conquer here at CrunchGear, and we just got a great tip sent in. EA is giving away away free downloads of some of the great classic C&C games that made the franchise such a long standing favorite. This is most likely to draw attention to the upcoming release of C&C 4: Tiberian Twilight, (which I've been playing in beta, and it's a whole lot of fun).

Spider-Man reboot to be shot in 3D (!!!)

No matter how you feel about the Spider-Man franchise going a new direction without Toby Maguire, you have to admit that a 3D Spider-Man movie has at least potential to be awesome. If soaring through the word of Avatar made you sick, just think what web-slinging through the streets of NYC will feel like. Yeah, you’re [...]

Warner Bros. looking to reboot Superman movie franchise. Again.

Get ready for another movie franchise re-boot! Yes, Warner Bros. wants to re-boot Superman, and it wants Christopher Nolan to sorta oversee the project, but not direct it. You'll recall that Mr. Nolan successfully re-booted Batman, the silliness of the second film notwithstanding. Money is money.

The latest movie franchise to be rebooted? Mortal Kombat. Yikes.

Does the world need another Mortal Kombat movie? No, probably not, but that won't stop Hollywood from attempting to exploit a license that was last hot in 1994. Word on the street is that Warner Bros. wants to, yes, “reboot” the series. (Note: You cannot reboot a dead computer, so I don't know if it's possible to reboot a dead movie franchise.) To that end it has hired Oren Uziel to write the script. You've probably never heard of Uziel, but he wrote Shimmer Lake. You've probably never heard of that, either.

Spider-Man 4 gets a director: Marc Webb, from (500) Days of Summer

It's time for your Hollywood Minute! Late last night it emerged that Marc Webb, the director of (500) Days of Summer, which I think is a romantic comedy/drama judging by the trailer (I do have the rip sitting on one of my hard drives, lest you think we don't practice what we preach), will direct Spider-Man 4. The movie is currently scheduled to be released in the summer of 2012, and may well be filmed in 3D.

Spider-Man 4 production halted, series will be re-boot in 2012; World of Warcraft could be director’s new project

It looks like production on Spider-Man 4 original story title has all but fallen apart, with director Sam Raimi pulling out, Sony freaking out and re-booting the franchise, and World of Warcraft fans wondering what to expect next. This is very exciting news!
