Apple & Google clash over “Android” in the App Store
Posted on February 5, 2010 | No CommentsAnd the Apple-Google war continues. This time, instead of just bad-mouthing each other, Apple is running with a strategy that they’re no stranger to: censoring words in the App Store. Instead of just “boobs” and “booty”, which they don’t seem to have a problem with anymore, Apple’s new target is the word “Android”. Now, Apple only [...] -
Xperia X10 to launch in April on Vodafone UK (Update: And others!)
Posted on February 4, 2010 | No CommentsIf you’d captured all the drool we’ve drooled over the X10 since it first got detailed so many months ago, you’d have a pool deep enough to swim in. A very nasty pool that you shouldn’t actually swim in, but a pool nonetheless. Today, UK wireless carrier Vodafone has announced that they’ll soon be carrying the [...] -
LG gets bragging rights for Japan’s first certified 4G device
Posted on February 3, 2010 | No Comments
The rest of the world is catching on rapidly but overall, Japan is still the world's most advanced society mobile society. That being said, you'd assume that the first 4G (LTE) device to get an official certification from Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications must be coming from one of the many mobile companies over here, but it was South Korea's LG who got the bragging rights [KR] for that today.

Meet Marc Flores, the new MobileCrunch writer
Posted on February 2, 2010 | No Comments
I begged and pleaded with Greg, editor of MobileCrunch, not to make me write this, but it looks like I'm stuck introducing myself to you all. So in my best Troy McClure voice let me say: Hi, my name is Marc Flores. You might remember me from popular sites such as Boy Genius Report or True/Slant.

HTC releases Droid Eris source code
Posted on February 1, 2010 | No Comments
HTC's been pretty good about celebrating the open-source spirit of Android. Whenever they release a new Android device, the source code for whatever goods they added on top of the stock firmware comes pouring in before too long.
It took just a bit over two months, but HTC has just released the code bundle for the Verizon Droid Eris. If you're wondering, "Great! What does that mean for me?" then hop on behind the jump.

Motorola MOTOSPLIT makes the Backflip look normal
Posted on January 25, 2010 | No Comments
Motorola's by no means a stranger to phones with wonky form factors. I mean, just look at the Moto Backflip - the keyboard! It's on the back! What is this, the future?
It gets crazier, friends.

Palm Pixi Plus and Pre Plus to go BOGO – sort of.
Posted on January 21, 2010 | No CommentsLike this – except, you know, with cell phones. If you were planning on buying two Verizon Palm Pixi Pluses (or, if you’re feelin’ nutty, one Palm Pre Plus and one Palm Pixi Plus), get excited. It looks like you’ll be walkin’ out of the Verizon store with a bit more cash than you expected. Yesterday afternoon, [...] -
AT&T needs to spend $5 Billion to catch up
Posted on January 20, 2010 | No CommentsWith all the crap that’s gone on (and still going on) between AT&T and Verizon, it’s safe to say that this is the last thing AT&T wanted to come out. According to a study that just came out, AT&T would have to spend approximately $5 billion US to get their network to the same level [...] -
Skyfire For Symbian Brought Up To Speed
Posted on January 20, 2010 | No CommentsBetween UI enhancements, bug fixes, and neat new features like smooth scrolling, Skyfire has been slamming out the updates as of late — but only for one platform. While the Flash/Silverlight-capable mobile browser is available for both Windows Mobile and Symbian, the latter edition hasn’t seen any updates in months… until today. Just minutes ago, Skyfire [...] -
Motoroi: Motorola to release another Android phone in March (video)
Posted on January 19, 2010 | No Comments
Motorola held a press conference in Seoul yesterday to announce a partnership with SK Telecom, a major Korean telecommunications company. The occasion: SK Telecom will be the first company to distribute an Android phone in that country, the so-called Motorola Motoroi.
It's not a rebranded Droid, but a completely new phone (in Europe, the Droid was named "Milestone" but remained largely unchanged technically). SK Telecom customers will be able to lay their hands on the Motoroi in early February.
But Motorola Korea and SK Telekom representatives are quoted as saying that Motorola is ready to roll out the Motoroi in the US in March, too. And apparently it will be available in a number of other countries as well.
