Droid X vs. iPhone 4… hang out!
Posted on June 23, 2010 | No CommentsSo, these aren't exactly the most similar phones ever. The Droid X has Android, a high res 4.3-inch screen, Verizon, and a hump in back. The iPhone 4 has iOS, a higher res 3.5-inch screen, and some of the slimmest smartphone dimensions ever. Sure, they're both flagship handsets for their respective teams, but we'd really rather live in a world where Droid X and iPhone 4 hang out after work for drinks than one where they stab each other in their silicon hearts. Sure, there'd be a bit of banter, but isn't there always between friends?Droid X vs. iPhone 4... hang out! originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 23 Jun 2010 18:20:00 EST. Google Maps for Android adds transit departure times, Latitude friend suggestions
Posted on June 22, 2010 | No CommentsOne of Google's favorite pastimes is shoehorning bits of new functionality into Google Maps for Android, probably because... well, because it can -- updating a package on its own mobile platform is a heck of a lot easier than, say, getting Apple to add a feature to its Maps app. To that end, version 4.3 has just rolled out with three major additions: aggregated (and color-coded) business reviews broken down by topic, transit system departure times, and suggested friends for Latitude. We'll admit, we occasionally forget that Latitude exists, so this seems like a timely addition to get it back into the spotlight -- and if you live in New York, Chicago, or another city with a sprawling bus and subway system, we're sure you'll be amped about the schedules. Now if those times were actually correct, that'd be really mind-blowing.Google Maps for Android adds transit departure times, Latitude friend suggestions originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Tue, 22 Jun 2010 19:52:00 EST. How-to: push Chrome / Firefox links to your Android 2.2 Froyo device (video)
Posted on May 31, 2010 | No CommentsWhile we absolutely adore our Nexus One -- now that it's got a bellyful of that fabulous frozen yogurt -- one of the most exciting Android additions shown off at Google I/O isn't actually slated for Froyo: the ability to push apps and music over the air from computer to phone. The underlying framework apparently is, though, and thus a bite-sized version of the functionality is already available at Google Code. If you're one of the lucky few running Android 2.2, you can get an extension for Chrome and Firefox web browsers that will let you push URLs, Maps and YouTube video links direct to your device using a Google Account. You can think of it as an early foray into a Continuous Client, perhaps, sharing with yourself before you head to a business meeting. Better yet, share an account with a group of friends and push interesting items to everyone on the go. See how (and see it in action) right after the break.Continue reading How-to: push Chrome / Firefox links to your Android 2.2 Froyo device (video)

Complain about your dropped iPhone calls… with science
Posted on May 23, 2010 | No CommentsWe just saw a great product at the TC Disrupt Hack Day. The “Get a Mac” Ads are gone

Monstrous Steam deal this weekend: Civilization IV and all its expansions for $10
Posted on May 7, 2010 | No CommentsQuick note, friends. One of the better Steam weekend deals in recent memory is live right now. It’s Civilization IV and all of its expansion packs for $10. That’s pretty much ridiculous any way you look at it. (Oh, and Modern Warfare 2 multi-player is free this weekend, if you’re into “that.”)
