Steam to come pre-installed on Alienware PCs
Posted on November 25, 2009 | No Comments
After a clean OS install, Steam is the third thing I load on the PC, after only Chrome and Photoshop. It has became the center of my gaming life and now Dell has worked a dell with the company to have the digital delivery manager pre-installed on all Alienware systems. Just think, Steam is non-spyware or bloatware software pack that will probably be installed on the Alienware rig anyway. Maybe Dell is starting to get it.

OnLive demonstrates iPhone app, set to redefine mobile gaming?
Posted on November 16, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Games, Software, Apple
Okay, we admit to still being a little bit unsure about OnLive's pledges for high-end, high-resolution, lag-free gaming on any 'ol device with bandwidth, but we want to believe, and so it's with skeptical optimism that we report on news of mobile implementations. The company has demonstrated an iPhone app in which users are able to play against gamers on a PC or on the company's MicroConsole -- despite not having a single button to press. It's interesting stuff but, according to OnLive's CEO Steve Perlman, it'll be awhile before we see this in the wild, as plans for initial mobile apps will be limited to checking game stats and watching live gameplay. However, we presume it'll be a small step from there to flip the switch and two-way communications, meaning that perhaps by the time Modern Warfare 3 hits the wires you can keep gaming even while you're commuting.

Best Buy to sell Modern Warfare 2 at midnight and fuel your gaming obsession even more
Posted on November 5, 2009 | No Comments
Look out, Walmart. Best Buy is going to sell Modern Warefare 2 at midnight too. But unlike Walmart, Best Buy's average middle of the night clientele doesn't look like this. or this. or this. The line will start at 10:30 p.m. and at 12:01 a.m., you and a few other socially-stunted gamers will get a chance to buy the game. How exciting. If you must be the first to own the game, there is a nice little advantage to buying the game at Best Buy instead of Walmart though.

How big of a difference does the DSi LL’s 4.2-inch screen make?
Posted on October 29, 2009 | No Comments
The rumors were correct. Nintendo was planning a larger screen DSi. Fair enough. So now you're probably wondering just how big of a difference a 4.2-inch screen is over a 3.25-inch screen. Well, Nintendo is fielding that question with a little interactive page, which trys to up-sell the new, large screen model over the original one. Seeing is believing, after all.

Catan comes to iPhone
Posted on October 28, 2009 | No Comments
One of my favorite games of all time, Catan, is now available as a $5 download for the iPhone and iPod touch. As board games go, The Settlers of Catan is a psycho-erotic thriller capable of hooking even the most un-hookable of gamers.

DIY: Secure your data using the Konami code
Posted on October 15, 2009 | No CommentsAhh the Konami code. Favorite cheat of gamers for years, it lives in legend and will never die. Much like that Rick Astley video. And while it might not be the most secure way to lock your data, it certainly raises your geek cred.

Video game addiction is hard
Posted on October 5, 2009 | No CommentsGood God. There's an article that was published on Green Pixels not too long ago that discussed video game addiction. It's your standard-issue “question” piece, where the writer asks a question—can video games be addictive?—and goes to a variety of experts, be they doctors, industry executives, and whatnot, and tries to ascertain their opinion. What's insane, however, is this retort (of sorts) by Neils Clark, who co-wrote the book Game Adiction: The Experience and the Effects, which was published in May. He also teaches at Digipen.

There will be a Halo 3: ODST Xbox 360 bundle
Posted on September 16, 2009 | No Comments
Halo 3: ODST is coming out on September 22, 2009 but you may wanna wait for the bundle pack if you're in need of a new system. Well, maybe as it's only announced in countries that use the PAL TV standard as of now. But if it gets a US release, you can bet your trousers that some gamers will jump on the bundle.

Razer teases StarCraft fans with new mouse, keyboard and headset
Posted on August 12, 2009 | No CommentsRemember that StarCraft Zerg messaging bag from yesterday? Yeah, that it’s only a teaser of what’s coming from Razer. Gamers can expect a new mouse, keyboard and headset themed after their favorite RTS. Chances are that Razer will announces all these at Blizzcon later this month. I don’t think it’s probably to far fetched to state [...] -
SteelSeries has new gear for serious gamers
Posted on July 24, 2009 | No CommentsThere is a certain market for gaming mice. These guys are the type that join an online FPS clan. They are the ones that yell at you for trying to have fun instead of cap’n the last flag. They obsess about framerates, lag, and 3DMark scores. But the key aspect of these nerds are that [...]

One of the biggest titles of this year's Tokyo Game Show is certainly Metal Gear Solid - Peace Walker for the PSP. And it's all about multiplayer. I was able to play the game with a friend (in co-op mode) for about 15 minutes and it completely rocked (the game was playable for the first time). In fact, up to four players could play at the same time (and some TGS guests did).
