    Blizzard just announced, via fancy e-mail, that there will, indeed, be a collector's edition of StarCraft II, whenever it comes out. (No, Blizzard has not announced a release date yet, but says it will "soon.") Anyhow, the collector's edition will come with a 176-page art book, a USB thumb drive loaded with the original StarCraft and its expansion pack Brood War, a behind-the-scenes DVD, a CD soundtrack, a comic book, and a World of Warcraft in-game pet, plus other bonus downloadable content (aesthetic stuff, not like mega-powerful guns or anything). Total cost: $99.

    Well, we can't say we didn't see this coming, but the official SanDisk Xbox 360 flash drive cost $40 -- for 8GB. Yeah, that's a little expensive considering 8GB can be had for less than half of that. Thankfully Microsoft actually did something pro-consumer for a change and is allowing any ol' flash drive up to 32GB work the same way.

    Well lookie at that, GameStop is selling a 250GB Xbox 360 drive separately from a console. Microsoft has said in the past that they don't plan on selling the larger drives without a bundle, so I doubt these are a new or official product, but rather GameStop coming up with something on their own.

    It's so, so easy to hate on Wal-Mart, what with destroying this country's mom and pop culture, importing cheap junk from China, and freaking out whenever employees mention the word “union.” But if you're a gamer, you really ought to cast aside your prejudices, brave the crowds, and find the games you've always wanted for a good $10 less than what you'll find elsewhere. That's right: we're having ourselves a good old fashioned price war.
