  • Android 2.2 coming to the full myTouch 3G range

Android 2.2 coming to the full myTouch 3G range

TmoNews has it on good authority that the entire line of myTouch 3G devices -- the original, the 3.5mm jack update, and the Slide -- will get upgraded with Android 2.2, as evidenced by a fascinating shot of a pamphlet the site has posted. Users of the older devices will also get the same Genius Button functionality that was just rolled out on the Slide, along with the updated Faves app and full Microsoft Exchange support, breathing new life into a phone that first saw life as the Magic well over a year ago. We don't have a timeframe for the updates other than that they're "coming soon," so we'll keep an eye out.

    [Thanks, Oscar]

  • Apple sued over wetness indicators

    Apple sued over wetness indicators

It's been a tough few hours for Apple. First their iPhone XXX 4G HD ]I[ gets stoled and then they get sued for those little dots inside iPhones that turn red when exposed to water. Inside the headphone jack and under the iPhone cable port are two little dots. If you go into an Apple Store to have your phone repaired and they see those things are red, you're sunk. The Genius will shake his head, slowly, tut-tutting through thin lips at your foolishness. Well, some folks are angry at Apple for refusing to service their potentially bewetted iPhones. However, those customers are claiming their iPhones never got wet.

The iPad is designed so even a 2-year old can use it

Apple knows people are idiots and didn’t want its consumers to learn another interface. So the iPad rocks the iPhone OS. That way anyone familiar with the other system can easily pick up and instantly use the iPad — like the 2.5-year old daughter of Laughing Squid’s Todd Lappin. She’s not a genius, she’s just [...]

iTunes 9.1 is live, iPad syncing, modded Genius Mixes added

Tunes 9.1 just went live. I'm digging through to see what's new in this version, but iTunes just updated to 9.1. It seems you actually have to go to the Apple.com/itunes site to download it because my System Update and the Update Software command in iTunes didn't catch it.

AquaAntics Water Bomb Factory is genius, should win an international peace award

I guarantee that the outside water spigot at my mom's house has weathered rings left over from water balloons. There just isn't a fool-proof way to fill up the balloons on a naked spigot. Sure, there are those little nozzles that thread on, but those don't work well either. But the AquadAntics Water Bomb Factory is just what the name implies: a venerable water balloon factory. You have to see this thing in action. It's set to revolutionize summer time. Click through for the video.

.canon: Canon wants to establish its own top-level domain

Megalomania or genius marketing move? Canon seriously takes aim at becoming the world's first company with its own generic top-level domain (gTLD), namely ".canon". The new domain would join the likes of .com, .edu, .gov, .org, etc. (Wikipedia has the full list). The Japanese electronics giant announced [press release in English] its plan to acquire the rights for the domain from ICANN today.

    Hands-on with the Rubik’s Slide

What good is a Rubik's Slide if you can't take off all the stickers and convince your mom that you're a super genius? Interestingly, however, the Rubik's Slide doesn't use stickers and it's actually much harder than it looks. You basically twist and turn the device to move the lights into various configurations and there are multiple modes, including lightning round, to keep you occupied. My wife picked this thing up last night and she noticed she was about to get addicted and so put it back down.

This Windows Media Center Boxee plug-in is a must-have

Both Boxee and Windows Media Center are amazing and among the most popular media playback programs. However, they don't really work together as they are both more platforms than anything else. You have to close out of one program to start the other and that's not an easy task if you're controlling your HTPC with just a remote from your couch. Enter Boxee Windows 7 Media Center Integration 1.0 plug-in.

Forgive me, I’m back on TF2 after a short stint playing Borderlands and Dead Space. Apple & Google clash over “Android” in the App Store

And the Apple-Google war continues. This time, instead of just bad-mouthing each other, Apple is running with a strategy that they’re no stranger to: censoring words in the App Store. Instead of just “boobs” and “booty”, which they don’t seem to have a problem with anymore, Apple’s new target is the word “Android”. Now, Apple only [...]
