iPhone OS 4.0 beta 4 includes AT&T tethering option

See that screen there? That's from the minty fresh beta 4 of iPhone OS 4.0, which was just released to developers moments ago. Unless our eyes are badly mistaken, that's an option to setup internet tethering on AT&T, something that WWAN warriors have been waiting for since... oh, forever. We're downloading the new build as we speak, and we'll let you know if we find anything out. Oh, and don't get your hopes up too high -- AT&T proclaimed that it was "still waiting on better network performance" before enabling iPhone tethering just three weeks ago.

Update: There's a video of the screens after the break, just in case your belief was temporarily suspended for any reason. Thanks, Jerish!

Update 2: Well, this is interesting -- we just updated an iPhone 3GS in Chicago, and we're not seeing the tethering option. We're guessing this is a glitch or just a mismatched carrier setting file, since so many others are seeing it, but we'll do some digging and see what's up.

Update 3: Okay, we've got it sorted -- all it took was a quick network settings reset. Thanks, Gray!

    [Thanks, Pete]

Man alive, how great would it be to be rich? You could afford crazy things like, I don't know, new shoes, healthy food, and six 20-inch monitors to play Modern Warfare 2 with. That's the dream.

Did this guy just ‘beat’ World of Warcraft? (Answer: No.)

Does getting every achievement in World of Warcraft mean you've “beaten” the game? I wouldn't say so, but that seems to be the meme going around, with word that a man in Taiwan has ticked off all but one achievements in the game.

The Windows 7 black screen of death will destroy us all!

Have you run into the black screen of death in Windows 7 yet? I haven't, but that's probably because I only use Windows as a conduit to playing Team Fortress 2 and spend only as much time as I can in there. I also haven't applied any security updates to it, and that may be the culprit.

Nokia N900 glitch leads to useful portrait mode, caught on video

File this under "it's not a bug, it's a feature" if true. According to Guyver at the maemo.org forums, some glitch in the OS caused his Nokia N900 to switch into portrait mode for everything, not just dialer and photo apps as previously allowed. We'd love to eliminate the need for two hands to run our favorite chunks of mobile software, but so far we haven't been able to recreate his trick. Try it at home if you'd like by tilting the device to launch the phone app, then sliding up the screen and closing the app. Perhaps the gang at Espoo can turn this into a legit update -- if they're awesome people, of course. Video after the break.

The Moto Droid’s Ability To Autofocus Varies From Day To Day – No, really.

Here’s a weird one for you: A few hours ago, Motorola DROID users began reporting that the cameras on their handsets were suddenly.. better. The camera’s ability to auto-focus, which I’d railed in our review of the product, seemed to drastically improve overnight. And it did! Most assumed that Verizon and Motorola had managed to sneak [...]

  • Sony kills (for now, at least) UMD transfer program for PSP Go

Sony kills (for now, at least) UMD transfer program for PSP Go

Oh, Sony. You're so close to being back, and then this happens. As you all know, the PSP Go comes out next week, and judging by all the random unboxings I've seen on various message boards—maybe our PSP Go got lost in the mail? Oh, well.—it looks like a fine, fine piece of hardware. The kicker, though, is: what happens to all those UMD games we've bought over the years? The original plan was to have some sort of trade-in or transfer program, whereby for every UMD you bought, you'd get a code to download the game. (Remember, there's no UMD slot in the PSP Go, so all games have to be downloaded onto the device's memory.) Turns out there's a small glitch.

Extraordinary rendition is still happening to Speak&Spells right now, write your Congressman

What you are about to see will shock you. Our allies overseas are being given broken Speak&Spells for full interrogation and their techniques are as far from the Geneva Convention laws as you can imagine. After stripping out most of the lower part of the device, these interrogators are forcing the Speak&Spells to perform unnatural acts, some that turn the stomach.
Touching the word "Speak" turns the unit on. "Spell" triggers a random letter. "&" triggers a random glitch sound. The touch pads to the right trigger a really crazy hold/distortion effect. This is one of the most interesting effects I've found in a Speak&Spell in years. The strip below changes the pitch. This doesn't actually utilize a transistor. I simply wired the pad to the pitch base on the circuit.

  • Blizzard has defeated the Door Boss!

Blizzard has defeated the Door Boss!

Good news, everyone. It looks like Blizzard has finally defeated the Door Boss. That is, you should no longer, or not as frequently, run into the “additional instances cannot be launched” glitch. It truly is a time for celebration.

Don’t worry, Blizzard is trying to defeat the Door Boss once and for all. At least we think it’s trying.

The Door Boss is a new phenomenon in World of Warcraft. You face him when you try to enter an Instance, only to find the error message, “Additional instances cannot be launched, please try again later.” It's quite annoying when all you want to do is run through, say, BFD once before you go to bed.

Another MacBook Pro issue? ‘Clicking and beeping’ noises could be caused by hard drive conflict

Yet another possible glitch affecting the MacBook Pro, this time having to do with “strange clicking and beeping noises.” It seems that several people with the 7200 RPM hard drive (the Seagate Momentus 7200.4) have reported those “clicking” issues, as well as general performance issues. Can't have that.
