Thanko announces not one but two USB-powered, heated slippers
Posted on December 2, 2009 | No Comments
It's Thanko time again. The Tokyo-based company, famous for gadgets like the USB-powered boob warmer, the USB eye warmer or the USB gloves, is now offering not one [JP] but two [JP] USB-powered, heated slippers - just in time for winter. I can't decide which one is uglier, but maybe you can.

Honda makes the ultimate Paperboy gaming system
Posted on November 23, 2009 | No Comments
Bicycle safety wasn't an issue for me growing up. I lived in a quiet suburban subdivision on a cul-de-sac. Plus, my mom is an insurance agent and so she made sure that I always had the latest safety equipment. (E.g. shin pads, wrist pads, elbow pads, helmet, gloves, and a cup) It's a damn good thing that Honda didn't make this bicycle simulator back in the Eighties. She would have shipped the thing in from Japan, and I would have never been able to leave the house.

Thanko’s USB powered, Dinosaur foot-shaped slipper keeps your feet warm
Posted on November 12, 2009 | No Comments
OK, now the USB gadget craze gets really silly. Tokyo-based crap USB accessory maker Thanko has been selling USB-powered slippers and gloves that are supposed to keep you warm in the past, but the new model, Dinosaur foot-shaped slipper(s) [JP] (of all things), is probably the silliest.

USB-powered gloves that keep your fingers warm (but why?)
Posted on November 9, 2009 | No CommentsMy first reaction - when I saw today on Thanko's web site that the notoriously silly gadget maker from Tokyo is selling USB-powered gloves with built-in heaters [JP] - was: Who actually buys this kind of stuff? I mean Thanko is a real company, they have brick-and-mortar stores in Tokyo (two of them), they have employees etc. But they have been surviving for years now, even though they closed their English online store last month.

More Vibram Five Fingers information than you particularly require
Posted on October 29, 2009 | No Comments
We at CrunchGear are rarely at the forefront of fashion. However, once I reviewed the Vibram Five Fingers I knew I was onto something. Thankfully, there are other people out there who don't think my love for foot gloves is not strange or weird. In fact, people wear these crazy shoes everywhere they go!
Take a look at BirthdayShoes.com. Editor Justin Owings gets testimonials from all over the world including folks who have run marathons in these things and other folks who stand around in India wearing them. Heck, even Sergey Brin is down.
Video after the jump.

Verizon’s anti-iPhone gets its first commercial: ‘Droid Does’
Posted on October 17, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets, Motorola, Verizon Wireless, EV-DO, CDMA, Apple, Android
We knew Verizon Wireless would soon be throwing caution to the wind in an effort to sway uncommitted smartphone buyers towards Big Red, and it looks like the November-bound Motorola Droid will be VZW's anti-iPhone. The spot, which launched tonight and can be view in its entirety after the break, is a 30 second clip that begins by mocking Apple's cutesy music and iconic font typically seen in iPhone plugs. It reels off a number of things that the iPhone can't do, and then abruptly goes into full-on tease mode by flashing glimpses of a robot-controlled future and a tagline that simply states: "Droid Does." No shots of the actual Motorola Droid (or Sholes, as it was known in the past) are shown, but a dedicated teaser portal has already been erected; through that, we're told that the phone will boast Android 2.0 and a 5 megapixel camera. At this point, we'd say the gloves are definitely off -- AT&T, have anything to say for yourself, or is the iPhone doing just fine on its own?
[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]Continue reading Verizon's anti-iPhone gets its first commercial: 'Droid Does'

Video: The murder of a Volvo S80 by Cash for Clunkers
Posted on August 3, 2009 | No CommentsI don’t get it. The Volvo S80 in the video above probably had many more miles on it. There are a lot of people out there that would have loved to have it, but the Cash for Clunkers program sent it down the green mile. Dealers are suppose to fill the engines with sodium silicate and [...] -
Wrist-Mounted Keyboard Has Us All in a Froth
Posted on July 20, 2009 | No CommentsThis one handed (or rather one-handed, one wristed) keyboard is your ticket straight out of the dating game. It manages to hit plenty of extra geek-buttons as it heads for the exit, though: The company is iKey, and the name is a military hardware evoking AK-39. The keyboard is actually designed for some heavy-duty use, featuring [...] -
Garmin announces the BMW Motorrad Navigator IV GPS
Posted on July 6, 2009 | No Comments
GPS’s are mostly uninteresting to me since I have little use for one in NYC, so this post is mostly for my brother and his BMW.
It’s unclear what the “expanded relationship” is between Garmin and BMW Motorrad, but I’m pretty sure the announcement of the BMW Motorrad Navigator IV GPS is the extent of that whole business.
