Verizon looks at the BL40, wimps out, goes with some boring handset
Posted on September 21, 2009 | No CommentsLook, Verizon. I know that we’ve given the BL40 (or “Chocolate Touch”) a lot of crap since it first leaked out. It was a pretty grand departure from Chocolates past and, well, it looked big enough to churn butter with. That said, we liked it. Apparently we were the only ones – either that, or the [...] -
Case-mod: Stargate Pyramid HTPC
Posted on September 16, 2009 | No Comments
There's an interesting correlation between computer hobbyists and science fiction fans. That's never more obvious then when you see some of the custom case mods that people produce. Case in point, today we have a Stargate Pyramid ship inspired modification. Whomever built this thing obviously spent an enormous amount of time on it, and it really shows.

Happy 40th birthday, Nerf!
Posted on September 9, 2009 | No Comments
In honor of Nerf’s 40th anniversary and the launch of the N-Strike Raider Rapid Fire CS 35 blaster, which ships today, Nerf sent over a mighty fine and ginormous care package to the CG office. I can’t believe the Parker Brothers developed Nerf in 1969 and the first product was some dumb four-inch polyurethane foam ball. They’ve come a long way since then.
Let’s dig into the goodie bag.

Outrage! Canadia says we’re lazy! But they do make better Palm Pre commercials
Posted on August 31, 2009 | No Comments
You know what Canada looks like? It looks like the best part of town - where everyone is cool and gets drunk all the time without hangovers and where you used to go to raves when you were like 16 and now when you go back the rave places have grown up with you and become chocolate shops and classic book stores - but it looks like that all over the country.

Leaked Samsung S3650 Corby pictures indicate designers might have been colorblind
Posted on August 24, 2009 | No Comments
What's black, yellow, red, and just a wee bit ugly all over? If you guessed the Samsung S3650 Corby, good job! We also would have accepted "Clint Howard wearing a bumblebee suit and a red fedora."

Review: Kensington Nightstand Charging Dock for iPhone, iPod Touch
Posted on August 18, 2009 | No Comments
Short Version: If you’ve never purchased a charging dock for your iPhone or iPod Touch and you’re without an alarm clock then the Kensington Nightstand is a perfect alternative for you, friend. Being able to check on the weather first thing in the morning is an added bonus. The $40 price tag might give some of you sticker shock considering the Rise & Shine app is free from the App Store, but a quick look around to other iPhone/iPod accessory vendors quickly reveals that the Nightstand is actually a good deal. If you’re looking to buy a charging dock that is.

Video: C&C 4 Director’s Cut Trailer
Posted on August 7, 2009 | No CommentsCommand and Conquer has been around for ages, but the story is coming to an end with C&C4 according to everything the Internet is saying. You really should go back play last C&C 3 before the new one comes out, but this trailer really does a good job to set the C&C4 stage - or [...] -
98.9% of US homes able to receive DTV per Nielsen
Posted on July 31, 2009 | No Comments
Good job, everyone! The DTV switch seemed to went well. The June 12 transition came and past on our end with little fanfare. Hopefully it was the same with you. Nielsen is reporting that the vast majority of US homes - 98.9% that is - can receive DTV signals. Kind of surprisingly though is that the under 35 demo is the least prepared with 2.7% unable to receive the digital broadcasts.

Zii Plaszma: A case study in WTF
Posted on July 29, 2009 | No Comments
Creative makes MP3 players. They do a good job. I like Creative. Good people over there. A good company.
But I got this email today describing Creative's plans with the new Zii handheld and I was immediately struck by a question: What the hell is this Plaszma Zii StemCell garbage?

Review: The Conduit (Wii)
Posted on July 15, 2009 | No Comments
I now have a reason to ignore my PS3 and Xbox 360. The Wii finally has a decent “next-gen” shooter thanks to High Voltage and Sega. I hate to backtrack, but let’s take a step back for a second before I dive into this review.
Developers have typically taken a different route with the Wii since it launched many moons ago and for good reason. First party titles weren’t that great and the WiiWare catalog pretty much stunk on ice for a long time. And then there’s the fact that the console sold like hotcakes because it was “accessible” to the masses or the “casual gamer” as it were. If you had a decent game it was probably going to sell well. Development for the console in the early days could have been funded with a neighborhood bake sale. You see where I’m going with this, right?

iPhone 3G S video sample makes its way to the tubes
Posted on June 17, 2009 | No Comments
Do you get your mitts on your iPhone 3G S yet? No? Don't worry - neither did we. Neither did most people, really. But somewhere out there, some guy did - and he's already crackin' away at helping people make informed decisions one video sample at a time.
We can't say for absolute certain that this video comes from an iPhone 3G S, but it all seems to fall in place. Widescreen recording? Check. iPhone 3G S box in view? Check. Going through the effort of making a fake box this close to the eleventh hour just for the sake of faking a video sample seems a bit silly, so we'll give him the benefit of a doubt. Good job, video-sample-shooting action hero. Check it out after the jump.
