We’re at Penny Arcade Expo East 2010: Pax Nerdicana
Posted on March 26, 2010 | No CommentsGreetings, fellow gamers. I’m in Boston for PAX East. It’s all the fun of the Penny Arcade Expo, but done east coast hip-hop style. It’s just me and I have no idea what I’m doing, but expect a steady stream of video game goodness in the next two days. Any requests—specific game you want to [...] -

Posted on March 23, 2010 | No CommentsLook at you, Kyocera! After essentially shuttering your smartphone division for years, you’ve jumped back in with a bit of a splash. Today at CTIA, the low-to-mid-range handset manufacturer announced the Zio, an Android-powered touchscreen phone. What makes the Zio special isn’t its specs — it’s the price it brings the specs in at. For somewhere [...] -
Apple having a rough time convincing companies to provide content for iPad
Posted on March 19, 2010 | No CommentsLooks like Apple is running into some last-minute trouble getting content providers to provide content for the iPad. The device goes on sale next week, and Apple has already seen plenty of pre-orders—even if those pre-orders may have quickly fallen off. The deal is that Apple had wanted to offer TV subscriptions alongside the device's launch, so that every episode of The Office and Parks and Recreation would automatically be downloaded to your iPad. That was the idea, at least.

The Search for Meaning (at SXSWi 2010)
Posted on March 13, 2010 | No Comments
While standing in line for an hour to get my badge and materials at this year's SXSW Interactive Conference, I had time to ponder my first trip to Austin for the event. Initially, my plans for attending centered around hunting down and harassing SEO spammers but a little extra time to reflect reminded me of the insensitivity and meaninglessness of such actions. Besides, that time could be much better spent hunting down beer and merch.
All kidding aside, Friday got off to a slow start, panel-wise, but that seemed to suit the nice, laid back nature of this town. At least the AT&T network seemed stable. We’ll see how that goes in the following days. If you have something specific to bitch CrunchGear at SXSW, twoot me at getdonovan.

Swype for Android rolls into semi-public Beta
Posted on March 8, 2010 | No CommentsSwype for Android’s finger-dragging input method goodness has been available to some extent through other means for a while now — some legit, some not quite as legit. Legitimate means or otherwise, Swype has still only been made available to pretty small group of people. Well, things are about to open up — if only just [...] -
Corsair unleashes the Force SSD line
Posted on March 4, 2010 | No Comments
Forget about the just-announced Corsair Reactor and Nova SSDs because you're not going to want those after you hear about the upcoming Force models. This new line forgos the Indilinx Bareboot controller for the faster SandForce SD-1200 processor, which enables the Force line to read at 285MB/s and write at 275MB/s. Yeah, that's quick. Trim support is also present on the SATA II drives as long as you're running a Trim-friendly OS like Windows 7. Don't expect all this SSD goodness to be affordable, though.

Apple prepping a Mac mini with HDMI? And Blu-ray?
Posted on March 1, 2010 | No Comments
The Mac mini has long been a HTPC fan favorite. It's small, quiet, yet powerful. But it doesn't have an HDMI port, which makes many Apple clowns sad. But hold on, a rumor just popped up that states that Apple is working on a Mac mini with *gasp* an HDMI port!

Newegg and Amazon cuts the Zune HD price by $30-$40
Posted on February 2, 2010 | No Comments
The Zune HD is a tempting piece of PMP goodness and it just got a whole lot more tasty with a modest price drop. Both Amazon and Newegg have at least temporarily dropped the price of our favorite media player. So far we haven't heard anything from Redmond about official cuts, but something is definitely up when these two retailers both cut prices.
