Google Maps for Android adds transit departure times, Latitude friend suggestions
Posted on June 22, 2010 | No CommentsOne of Google's favorite pastimes is shoehorning bits of new functionality into Google Maps for Android, probably because... well, because it can -- updating a package on its own mobile platform is a heck of a lot easier than, say, getting Apple to add a feature to its Maps app. To that end, version 4.3 has just rolled out with three major additions: aggregated (and color-coded) business reviews broken down by topic, transit system departure times, and suggested friends for Latitude. We'll admit, we occasionally forget that Latitude exists, so this seems like a timely addition to get it back into the spotlight -- and if you live in New York, Chicago, or another city with a sprawling bus and subway system, we're sure you'll be amped about the schedules. Now if those times were actually correct, that'd be really mind-blowing.Google Maps for Android adds transit departure times, Latitude friend suggestions originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Tue, 22 Jun 2010 19:52:00 EST. AppMakr now supports GeoRSS tagging
Posted on June 21, 2010 | No Comments
AppMakr is a service that allows you to make simple, Internet-fed apps for the iPhone, Touch, or iPad. Historically, AppMakr has been called a glorified RSS reader but, with the addition of push notifications, a native image viewer, and GeoRSS support, they're trying to shake that image.
GeoRSS is the latest addition to the product and allows content providers to stick a little XML code into their feed to mark posts with GPS coordinates. You can then use the iOS's native map-handling to view these posts on Google Maps or within the app itself.

LinkPush: Chrome-to-Phone for the rest of us (those not on Android 2.2)
Posted on June 9, 2010 | No Comments
One of the neat-o features introduced in Android 2.2 (or Froyo) is "Chrome-to-Phone", which gives the ability to take what you're viewing in the Google Chrome browser (on your PC/Mac), and push it straight to your Froyo phone.
I've not yet seen this in person, though, because I'm stuck on a pre-Froyo build of Android. Which sucks.
But today, that changes: I found someone that -- like me -- was longing for some Chrome-to-Phone action on their Android 2.1 phone. Unlike me, however, they did something about it.
And so I introduce to you LinkPush: the Chrome-to-Phone alternative for the rest of us.

You can now send Google Maps directions to your Ford Sync-equipped vehicle
Posted on June 8, 2010 | No CommentsOh, a car story written by Nicholas. This is sure to be riddled with errors! (Kidding&mdas;or am I?) Ford Sync, which Matt has talked about for some time, now works with Google Maps. That is, from Google Maps on your computer or mobile or whatever, you select a destination then send it straight to your car. That way, when you hop in the saddle—cars have saddles, right?—your destination is all marked out for you. Pretty neat.

Microsoft held a little gathering in New York City last night, where they showed off the progress being made in Windows Phone 7.
The big upshot of this is that
