JOBO announces updated two new photoGPS models

Geotagging is pretty popular these days, but for the most part you have to buy an additional hardware. JOBO makes one such device, the photoGPS, that's been around for a while. They just announced two new versions, photoGPS 2 and the photoGPS 4. The new models offer improved reception, battery life, and storage. All in all a worthy successor to their original product.

Garmin hops on the satellite imagery bus

Newsflash: birds see a LOT of stuff thanks to the fact that they can fly. Garmin wants to give you the same sensation (minus the flying part) with its new “BirdsEye Satellite and Aerial Imagery” feature, “an annual subscription service that gives users the option of loading highly-detailed photo-based maps to select Garmin handheld navigators,” according to a recent press release.

Analysts think you’re going to want to buy a connected GPS in 5 years

Analyst firm, Berg Insight, thinks that eighty-eight percent of all GPS units shipped in 2015 will have cellular connectivity. This seems like a blindingly obvious prediction to me.

BlueAnt releases a Bluetooth headset for motorcycle riders

Bluetooth headsets are great in a car but even more awesome on a motorcycle. It's not like you can use your phone while cruising down the road on a bike. You might drop the phone and no one wants that. BlueAnt is the latest company to release a system that fully utilizes all the capabilities of Bluetooth for motorcycle riders.

  • Here’s the TomTom XL 335S, everyone

Here’s the TomTom XL 335S, everyone

TomTom is here with yet another GPS device. The 335S packs a 4.3-inch touchscreen and text to speech functions into a small package with a somewhat competitive MSRP of $239. But like most other GPS units, that MSRP will probably be undercut by retailers as they try to push these GPS units onto holiday shoppers. Thankfully, the XL 335S seems to be decent for that price although I couldn't tell you the difference between this $239 335S and the $249 340S. (K.I.S.S)

TouchSmart Web packs a touch interface PC into your printer

HP TouchSmartConvergence. That's the word that comes to mind when I watch the fancy demonstration of the HP Photosmart Premium TouchSmart web printer. We've all seen the all-in-one PC design, a la the iMac, but how often do we see a printer and a computer in one package? HP is bundling a teeny little touch-interface computer with their latest set of printers, allowing you to access stuff from the Internet without using your PC at all! Some of the examples don't seem particularly useful: I don't think I'm likely to go to my printer when I want to buy movie tickets, for example, but letting kids print out their own coloring books seems like a pretty good idea to me. And printing Google Maps will be helpful for those Luddite friends of mine who don't have GPS units.

iPhone App Review: Navigon Mobile Navigator for iPhone

navigon-mobilenavigator_iphone_reality-view-pro_02 It is time to ask the age-old question: Are our cellphones ready to replace standalone GPS units. Sure we've all done a little work with cellphone mapping services and we've all mucked about with Google Maps while driving (which is very dangerous). But are cellphones and iPhones in particular ready to knock the old GPS box off of the dashboard? To paraphrase Molly Bloom in Ulysees, "yes to say yes my mountain flower and first I put my arms around him yes and drew him down to me and I think you can replace your GPS device with an iPhone and software like Navigon's Mobile Navigator for iPhone are making it much simpler yes I will Yes."
