You love Motorola, don't you? You've been rockin' each of their models before even the RAZR was cool. So you've no doubt been excited by the upcoming sequel to the brought-moto-back-from-fiery-doom Droid: the Droid 2.
Yes, the Droid 2, not X. I know it's getting a litle confusing remembering which Droid is which, but let me remind you: the Droid 2 has a physical QWERTY, the X doesn't.
But anyway, Android and Me have posted the world's first* hands-on video with the device, as well as run the device through a few benchmarks.

Qualcomm ships first dual-core Snapdragon chipsets clocking 1.2GHz
Posted on June 1, 2010 | No CommentsOh yeah baby, Qualcomm's finally shipping its first dual-core Snapdragons. To whom, is the big question. Its third-generation Mobile Station Modem MSM8260 and MSM8660 Snapdragon chipsets for high-end smartphones -- originally announced in February 2009 -- are now sampling and capable of running at up to 1.2GHz. The MSM8260 supports HSPA+, while the MSM8660 brings support for multi-mode HSPA+ and 1xEV-DO Rev. B. Both integrate GPS, a GPU with 2D / 3D acceleration engines for Open GL ES 2.0 and Open VG 1.1, 1080p video encoding and decoding, a dedicated low-power audio engine, and support for 24-bit WXGA 1,280 x 800 pixel displays. Anybody at Computex care to step forward with a reference design?
Update: We just spoke with company representatives here at the show, and try as we may, we couldn't convince anyone at the company to show off a dual-core reference design. We were flat-out told that the only people at Computex getting a glimpse at the new silicon were prospective customers, though we did manage to pry out a few interesting details about the chip itself and the future of the line. For one, these new chips have two application cores and a single modem core, whereas existing chips have a single application core alongside a single modem core. We were also told in no uncertain terms that an even quicker version of the Snapdragon would be launched before the year's end, and as you'd likely surmise, it'll be aimed at "larger screen" devices -- you know, like slates and tablet PCs.

New MacBook specs leak out of Vietnam

Looks like we get a peek at an unannounced update to the MacBook a little bit early. The update (showing up on the label as MacBook7,1) has the same CPU and GPU as the entry level MacBook Pro, but assuming Apple keeps the pricing the same, it should be available for $999.

OnLive strikes deal with BT in the UK, brings streaming video game service across the pond
Posted on May 13, 2010 | No CommentsOnLive, the streaming video game service that threatens to change the way people perceive gaming, has signed a deal with with British Telecommunications. The deal means that Britons will be able to play games like Mass Effect 2 and Assassin's Creed II over their broadband connection (and it also means that BT will buy a small stake in the company). No UK launch date has been announced. The U.S. launch is still on schedule for June 17.

Gateway adds Blu-ray, Core i3 & i5 CPU options to its NV entertainment notebooks

The Gateway NV series just got a nice little spec bump. The entry-level series finally got updated to Intel's latest CPU architecture and can be spec'd-out with a wide range of options. All the models however come with a slightly redesigned case, HD webcam, and HD Ultrabright LCD displays.

HDMI coming to more netbooks in 2011

HDMI can be found on a few netbooks right now, but it's set to become standard next year when Intel's Cedar Trail-M platform hits the tiny lappies. Most of the current netbooks with HDMI are built around Nvidia's ION GPU platform, which also drives up the cost. But by moving HDMI support to the CPU, it should come on nearly every netbook.

Plex for Mac OS X adds hardware h.264 video decoding

The devs have announced that they've integrated Apple's new video decode acceleration framework into the latest build. In English, that means all h.264-encoded video—and there's a lot of it out there—can be sent to your GPU for decoding, giving your CPU a bit more breathing room. It should make for significantly better 1080p video performance.

Nvidia commits to simultaneous desktop-laptop driver releases

This isn't such a big deal for desktop users, what with their fancy GTX 480s, but laptop users won't have to wait for the Dells and HPs of the world to release updated drivers. Maingear's eX-L has long been a staple in the gaming notebook scene. The latest update should keep it there, too, with DirectX 11 support courtesy of a little GPU called the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870. The new Core i5 and Core i7 CPUs are nice as well. We won't kick them out of bed but it's the 5870 that we would wine and dine and take home to momma.

MacBook Pro GPU is always on in Windows 7

MacBooks have great battery life for a few reasons, including, but not limited to, GPU switching. However, as Ubergizmo discovered, when you run Windows 7 in Bootcamp the GPU stays on all the time, essentially sucking down battery like a fiend. The 2009 MBP also had issues - the screen was too bright and the keyboard backlight was always on - but otherwise there wasn't much of a problem.
