Wikipedia says Google is using a special camera that's able to scan books at a rate of 1,000 pages per hour, which doesn't sound bad at all (I am talking about Google Books of course, the company's online collection of digitized books ). Chances are, if you're in charge of supporting a network of any size, you'll need to look at the actual packets that are passing back and forth across that network. Whether it's to see whether a specific machine is sending or receiving packets as it should, or you want to see the contents of the packets themselves, you'll need to break out a packet sniffer. A Japanese company called Spec Computer is selling a cool new gadget that makes it possible for insomniacs to get behind the reason for their sleeplessness. The good thing about the so-called ZZZ Checker [JP] is that in contrast to similar devices, it doesn't require you to wear anything on your body, for example a wrist band.
