    Well, there goes that. The Microsoft Kins seemed like a good system. Online reviews are somewhat positive, at least most say the Kin shows potential. But it doesn't matter. Kin One and Kin Two are likely going to be the only ones of their kind and will only be around for a short while. Verizon killed the platform when it decided that these feature phones need an expensive smartphone data plans.

    Because of the rapacious greed of Americans, those in the Euro-zone will not have their iPads until May, at least according to a short release by Apple. Blaming the popularity of the iPad in the US (and potentially some issues with Wi-Fi) , European pre-orders will not arrive in your charming town or hameau until May 10. This goes for the iPad 3G version as well. Apple, always one to toot their own trompette, hoped that Europe is happy to know that the iPad is a "runaway success." Cold comfort, I say.

    Fox made the decision to release the second Family Guy Star Wars spoof on DVD before airing on its network. Why? Greed. The first one was a huge hit and instead of just giving it away on a Sunday night for the whole world to enjoy, some corner office suits decided to release it on DVD first. That way, they probably thought while sipping 50-year old whiskey in a smoke-filled boardroom, people would have to either buy or rent it if they wanted to watch it.

    It was so close I could taste it. Two weeks ago we were ready to publicly launch the CrunchPad. The device was stable enough for a demo. It went hours without crashing. We could even let people play with the device themselves – the user interface was intuitive enough that people “got it” without any instructions. And the look of pure joy on the handful of outsiders who had used it made the nearly 1.5 year effort completely worth it. Our plan was to debut the CrunchPad on stage at the Real-Time Crunchup event on November 20, a little over a week ago. We even hoped to have devices hacked together with Google Chrome OS and Windows 7 to show people that you could hack this thing to run just about anything you want. We’d put 1,000 of the devices on pre-sale and take orders immediately. Larger scale production would begin early in 2010. And then the entire project self destructed over nothing more than greed, jealousy and miscommunication.

    We like innovative products as much as the next nerd, but we're thinking that Fuji might be beyond its time with this 3D camera. It sounds sweet. The Fujifilm camera can produce 3D pics by using two lens that are spaced out a lot like human eyes. It then uses fancy software to combine the two images into one 3D picture that can then be viewed on either a special digital photo frame or on a special Fuji print. But the whole system is too expensive, which is a damn shame.

    Call it a sign of the times, call it a Google I/O attendee who just didn't really like the Ion, call it an overabundance of Western-style capitalism, call it man's almost instinctive need to generate profit -- whatever the case, one of the 4,000 specially-branded Ions given away at the conference this week is now available to the highest bidder. Never mind the fact that it's an I/O special edition, though -- outside of this particular device, we're not sure where you can find a 1700MHz 3G HTC Magic at any price, so we're sure this is going to be worth plenty of cold, hard cash to plenty of people who aren't in San Francisco at the moment. Oh, and don't worry if you miss out on this one; we'd be shocked if there weren't others in the pipeline.
