Posted on May 18, 2010 | No Comments
The very instant it was announced that HP had purchased Palm, one idea set the hearts and minds of geeks everywhere aflame: webOS-powered tablets. webOS is a wonderfully glorious OS, hindered only by half-baked hardware - strap that thing onto a big ol' slab of glass, and you've got my money.
Aaaaand sure enough, that's one of the things that HP's got lined up, along with... something else.

Western Digital has sold more hard drives this year than Seagate
Posted on May 13, 2010 | No Comments
Five hundred and fifty eight million hard drives were shipped in 2009. Think about that for a moment. Five hundred and fifty eight million. Of those, 175.2 million (or 31.4%) carried the Seagate brand name while 165.2 million came from Western Digital. According to The Information Network, WD pulled ahead in the first quarter of 2010, selling 51.1 million hard drives compared to Seagate's 50.3 million sold. I guess that's big news, if you're really into hard drives, or have strong brand loyalty to the drive in your computer. Me, I don't care so much.

Crazy powerful and magical? Where do I sign?
Posted on May 13, 2010 | No CommentsAs I said before, I like me my iPad but the magical language has to go. It also sounds like they’re using Gold Lion from the Yeah Yeah [...] -

Posted on May 11, 2010 | No CommentsMicrosoft had tried to shutdown the original Xbox Live servers, but a couple of Halo 2 stalwarts had refused to log off! I guess Microsoft couldn't turn the servers off, or wouldn't, while people were still connected? No matter: the last Halo 2 Xbox Live player has signed off. We wish him well in his future endeavors.

Russian advice: Nuke the oil spill, that’ll fix it!
Posted on May 5, 2010 | No CommentsStop the presses~! The Russians have come up with a pretty snazzy way to deal with that oil spill: nuke it all! Why waste time freaking out when you can unleash the power of mass-to-energy conversion, and let Mr. Atom clean up the mess in no time at all?

Verizon makes BlackBerry Tour Push-to-talk “free for life” for anyone who acts quick
Posted on April 30, 2010 | No CommentsAlmost exactly one month ago, Verizon added Push-to-talk support to the BlackBerry Tour! Hurray! Unfortunately, it cost $5 extra a month. Un-hurray. It looks like Verizon might be having a bit of trouble getting people to sign up — or, at least, they want to kickstart the number of people using it. They just dropped the [...] -
Can you guess the inspiration for the Bionic Handling Assistant?
Posted on April 23, 2010 | No Comments
What you see here is the Bionic Handling Assistant, a sort of robotic arm designed to improve the interaction between humans and robots. Clearly this thing was inspired by Doc Ock from Spider-Man, right? There can be no doubt! Look at those articulated arms. Look at those pincers. Look at the sheer menace these things give off! Doc Ock all the way, am I right?

Posted on April 20, 2010 | No CommentsWhen you math types go to school and get your engineering degree, do you ever dream of working on something like the Eclipse?
