Dell Streak gets cozy with Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, suddenly looks small (video)
Posted on June 21, 2010 | No Commentsdigg_url = 'http://digg.com/gadgets/Dell_Streak_Bluetooth_keyboard_mini_mobile_workstation'; Look what we have here? The Dell Streak sure keeps bringing us more and more surprises -- unlike most Android devices that lack the Bluetooth HID profile, here it is paired up with our wireless keyboard and mouse (Apple's Wireless Keyboard and Magic Mouse, specifically) without any driver hacks. Streak Smart, who made this discovery, had the same experience as us with its iGo Stowaway keyboard and an unknown mouse -- typing was as smooth as cutting butter with a hot knife, but the mouse couldn't do much due to the lack of pointer and scrolling support. If you insist, the forthcoming Nokia N8 is confirmed to support both devices natively, but it shouldn't be long before we see a mouse hack for the green bot. Hands-on video after the break, and do also head over to the source link if you need more convincing.Dell Streak gets cozy with Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, suddenly looks small (video) originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 21 Jun 2010 20:38:00 EST. Nexus One steps up to 720p HD video thanks to latest hack (video)
Posted on June 9, 2010 | No CommentsJust more evidence that rooting is the only true path of the geek. The indefatigable coders over at xda-developers have just pushed out a download that allows the Nexus One to start shooting video at 720p resolution. You'll need to have at least CyanogenMod version 5.0.8test3, but once you get your house in order, you'll be enjoying one of the big touted features of the latest handsets on your five-month old Googlephone. Pretty neat, and what's even better is that work is already underway to improve audio and the fps rate, as well as making the code compatible with Android Froyo, it all just requires a bit more tinkering. So, hit the source link to get the download or join us after the break for a quick sample video.

HTC EVO 4G gets unlimited WiFi hotspot skills, courtesy of root
Posted on June 7, 2010 | No Comments
The root, the root, the root is on fire! Well, not quite, but you just got another pretty splendiferous reason to hack your EVO: android-wifi-tether, an app doing exactly what its name suggests, has now been confirmed to support HTC's 4G-capable phone. There were apparently some compatibility issues at first, but those have now been ironed out and superuser-empowered folks have been successfully pairing the free app and supersonic phone since. Might as well jump on board with this one -- Google has already said Froyo's native ability to do this might be circumscribed by carriers, meaning Sprint's likely to package any official firmware upgrades in such a way as to keep you paying for hotspot capabilities. And who wants to do that?HTC EVO 4G gets unlimited WiFi hotspot skills, courtesy of root originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 07 Jun 2010 05:11:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

HTC Evo 4G rooted in record time (video)
Posted on May 24, 2010 | No CommentsWe're still a good dozen days away from its public release, but the Evo 4G has already been given a rooting makeover. Google dished out Evo handsets to all the lucky (so lucky!) attendees of its blowout I/O 2010 event, and a trio of those visitors rolled up their sleeves and decided to get down and intimate with the phone over the weekend. The product of their labor is at this stage just a few screenshots and a blurry video after the break, but fear not, we're sure details of the hack will be forthcoming promptly.

Complain about your dropped iPhone calls… with science
Posted on May 23, 2010 | No CommentsWe just saw a great product at the TC Disrupt Hack Day. It’s basically a class action lawsuit generator against AT&T that uses your actual call drop data to tabulate how many times your phone crashed and how many times you’ve been generally hosed by AT&T. The site is worstphoneever.com and it searches for baseband [...] -
Video: Palm WebOS, meet laptop
Posted on May 17, 2010 | No CommentsNow, it’s not the mystical HP webOS tablet we’ve all been dying for for what feels like forever (read: two weeks), but it’s a step in the right direction. PreCentral forumgoer cdowers managed to hack webOS onto an old Dell laptop they had laying around — and surprisingly, this “hack” didn’t really require all [...] -
DIY: Put your P&S digital camera into something a bit more classy
Posted on May 12, 2010 | No Comments
Modern cameras (for the most part) lack the soul and feeling that classic film cameras brought to the table. But what if you could take the insides out of a point and shoot, and somehow put them inside a film camera body?

Control your Nexus One or Droid with a Wii Remote for fun and profit
Posted on May 10, 2010 | No CommentsIf you have a Nexus One or Motorola Droid and play classic games with an emulator, you must do this hack. It essentially turns the Nexus One into a full-fledge portable gaming system. The Wii Remote is even small enough to travel with, too. Can’t you see yourself pulling out the phone and firing up [...] -
Good idea? Internet voting coming to U.S. elections for military, overseas citizens
Posted on May 9, 2010 | No CommentsThis is probably a case of where the idea is sound but humans will no doubt muck everything up. Thirty-three states here in the good ol' U.S. will allow military and overseas citizens to vote via the Internet beginning with the mid-term election in November. This is being done in part to ensure that overseas voters' votes, you know, count. I don't know how many of y'all have ever lived overseas, but it's probably easier to find Jay Leno funny than it is to obtain a ballot, then have it count. It's 2010 and we still don't have simple things like voting figured out. Amazing.

Just in case the 1TB drive in the TiVo Premiere isn't big enough for you, WeaKnees is now selling two upgraded models with a bit more storage capacity. The TiVo authorized reseller has a 2TB and 4TB Premiere available for $849 and $149, respectively. That's a lot of recording storage, boys and girls, and currently the only way to get a larger drive in the Premiere.

And we're done... the iPad has been jailbroken and can currently run an SSH server. The 3.2 firmware still has a number of security holes which allowed the iPhone Dev-Team to break it using the iPhone 3.1.3 hack.

Jailbreak fix for iTunes 9.1 on Windows already on the way
Posted on March 30, 2010 | No Comments
There was a wee bit of chaos amongst iPhone jailbreakers after this morning's iTunes 9.1 update hit. Seemingly out of nowhere, "tethered" jailbreaks (the slightly-less-convenient type necessary for newer iPhones) stopped working. Panic!
Fortunately, the endlessly resourceful army behind the jailbreaking effort has already isolated the problem, and a fix is in the works.

You really gotta love the peeps over at XDA. The latest in their long list of awesome achievements is a hack that brings the ability to shoot 720p video on the Nexus One.

Proving once again that duct tape is capable of almost anything, here's a little DIY project for you. It looks fairly simple to build your own projector, even if it's not particularly aesthetically pleasing.
