Halo: Reach multi-player beta is really quite fun
Posted on May 3, 2010 | No CommentsI spent a few hours last night playing the Halo: Reach multi-player beta. (Microsoft sent out a few early invites to writing-guys like me, but the beta opens to Halo: ODST owners today.) It's been a while since I've played a Halo game for any real amount of time. I dabbled with Halo 3's multi-player for a little while there, but that was two years ago. First impression of the Reach beta: absence makes the heart grow fonder. CrunchGear: your home for old man idioms.

Wal-Mart starts video game price war, cuts prices of games by $10
Posted on December 8, 2009 | No CommentsIt's so, so easy to hate on Wal-Mart, what with destroying this country's mom and pop culture, importing cheap junk from China, and freaking out whenever employees mention the word “union.” But if you're a gamer, you really ought to cast aside your prejudices, brave the crowds, and find the games you've always wanted for a good $10 less than what you'll find elsewhere. That's right: we're having ourselves a good old fashioned price war.

A Worthog is standing by to repel any Covenant attack on Syndey
Posted on August 6, 2009 | No CommentsRemember that awesome real-life Warthog built for the never made Halo movie? Yeah, it was the one built upon a Nissan Patrol 4×4 and looked like it could even survive a drive up MLK Ave in Flint, MI. This weekend that very Warthog is on Cockatoo Island in Australia doing a little promo work for [...] -

The six-inch wonder goes on sale in October. You'll recall that McFarlane Toys also released action figures based on Halo 3 and Halo Wars.

Should we wave goodbye to buying video games at retail?
Posted on June 1, 2009 | No CommentsIs it to early to proclaim—loudly, as you do—the practice of buying video games at retail dead? Yes, it probably is too early; yet we continue. Microsoft's announcement today that it will make available, sometime this year, full retail games available for download via Xbox Live, may well be more important than Project Natal, or “Project Christmas” as I like to call it. (All those months spent learning Portuguese have finally paid off!) And while, yes, it make be too early to make any sort of rushed pronouncements, I'd say it's say to start thinking about the future.
