US Cellular adds HTC Desire and BlackBerry Bold in August, teases BlackBerry 9670 for ‘later this year’
Posted on June 25, 2010 | No Comments
We were extremely close to cramping our sarcasm muscle with all the faux excitement we had to drum up for the 3.2-inch Acclaim, but US Cellular has now come back with word that it'll soon count HTC's Desire among its roster of phones. The Desire, which is mooted to be coming to other smaller carriers like Cellular South, will debut in August alongside the BlackBerry Bold. We're more excited, however, to find US Cellular promising it'll offer "a BlackBerry flip smartphone with a full QWERTY keyboard" later this year. That sounds like RIM's slightly unorthodox 9670 to us, and will probably form the second part of the BB maker's pledged introduction of two new handsets. US Cellular's 2010 device lineup refresh will be completed with a pair more Androids, courtesy of LG and Samsung. The former is said to have a "large touch screen and slide-out, ergonomically-designed QWERTY keyboard," while the latter is only described as "highly-anticipated." Not too shabby.US Cellular adds HTC Desire and BlackBerry Bold in August, teases BlackBerry 9670 for 'later this year' originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 25 Jun 2010 05:41:00 EST. Swype psyched to be on Droid X, fifty total devices by the end of 2010
Posted on June 24, 2010 | 1 CommentLove it or lump it, looks like Swype is making inroads into the mobile space. We've seen it on a few handsets already, and we know how eager the company is to get on the iPhone, but so it doesn't look like Apple's ready to bite. In the meantime, it seems that the company is more than happy to make due with the likes of HTC, Samsung, and Motorola -- the latter having gone with Swype for the Droid X. According to Swype CEO Mike McSherry, this is the company's biggest coup yet, though certainly not the last -- he says to look for the app on some fifty phones by .Swype psyched to be on Droid X, fifty total devices by the end of 2010 originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 24 Jun 2010 14:19:00 EST. You crazy kids and your Nexus Ones. It looks like the final Froyo build (FRF83) is now being rolled out as an over-the-air update.
This update supersedes the previous Froyo build (FRF50) that was rolled out to a limited number of Nexus One handsets for testing.

Nexus One getting Android 2.2 FRF83 update over the air?
Posted on June 23, 2010 | No CommentsThe Android 2.2 source code just went public this morning, but we're hearing a fully-compiled, legitimate OTA version of Froyo may be hitting small batches of Nexus One handsets as well. Though a 1.78MB ZIP file floating around XDA-developers this afternoon was originally thought to be the droid we've all been looking for, Android and Me reports that they received an honest-to-goodness OTA version of FRF83 after trying (and failing) to get that ZIP to work, and we're getting several similar reports. Let us know in comments if you've received a frozen treat of your own.

Droid X vs. iPhone 4… hang out!
Posted on June 23, 2010 | No CommentsSo, these aren't exactly the most similar phones ever. The Droid X has Android, a high res 4.3-inch screen, Verizon, and a hump in back. The iPhone 4 has iOS, a higher res 3.5-inch screen, and some of the slimmest smartphone dimensions ever. Sure, they're both flagship handsets for their respective teams, but we'd really rather live in a world where Droid X and iPhone 4 hang out after work for drinks than one where they stab each other in their silicon hearts. Sure, there'd be a bit of banter, but isn't there always between friends?Droid X vs. iPhone 4... hang out! originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 23 Jun 2010 18:20:00 EST.
