iPhone KIRFs up to 4.3-inch screen, claims invincibility from haters
Posted on June 17, 2010 | No CommentsHey, just because Apple won't make one doesn't mean you can't have a 4.3-inch iPhone. This here product of Chinese ingenuity offers you as much real estate as "the king of HTC HD2" while also throwing in both digital and analog TV tuners into the mix. When you factor in the dual SIM compatibility, 2 megapixel camera, WiFi, and removable back cover, it's enough for anyone to agree that "even a popular niche iPhone 4G had to step aside!"Continue reading iPhone KIRFs up to 4.3-inch screen, claims invincibility from haters

T-Mobile gearing up for free phone promo on family plans next weekend?
Posted on June 12, 2010 | No CommentsSo it looks like T-Mobile has something special in store for Father's Day, and if you've had your eye on any of the pricier gear like the HD2 or the myTouch 3G Slide, this might be a prime opportunity to get in on the action. TmoNews has scored what appears to be a script for a commercial that'll be airing ahead of the 19th, whereby you can get any phone in the store for free on one day only by switching to a family plan. What's not clear is whether you'll need to add another line when you make the switch, but we'd imagine -- some of these phones are crazy expensive off-contract, and just like any of the countless BOGO offers that Verizon likes to push, there's no such thing as a free lunch. Still though, if you were looking to add a line for the fam anyhow, this'll likely be the cheapest way to do it.T-Mobile gearing up for free phone promo on family plans next weekend? originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Sat, 12 Jun 2010 20:09:00 EST. HTC HD Mini review
Posted on June 6, 2010 | No CommentsWe had to exercise our neglected patience muscle with this one, but at long last we've gotten ahold of a real live HD Mini and put it through its paces. Equipped with the same processor, screen size and resolution as HTC's Legend, but running the HD2's Windows Mobile 6.5.3 under a WinMo-specific Sense skin, the Mini is in many ways an amalgamation of its two better known cousins. You'll no doubt be aware that we weren't too displeased by either of those handsets, so what you must be wondering now is whether or not splicing them into one eminently pocketable package delivers an equally compelling device. Read on to find out.Continue reading HTC HD Mini review

Samsung i8920 Omnia HD2 leaking its way across the net as we speak
Posted on May 20, 2010 | No Comments
Samsung's successor to the Symbian-powered i8910 (aka OmniaHD) has just bust its pipes, and is now leaking all over the internet (too soon?).
The leaks thus far point to a 4" Super AMOLED screen, a 12MP camera with both Xenon and LED flash (why not?), 30fps 720p video recording (just like its older sibling), and 16 or 32 GB internal storage, all running atop Symbian^3.
Oh, and it also includes the soon-to-be-standard-on-high-end-phones WiFi b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0.

T-Mobile’s update for HTC HD2 now extra official, wipes some game purchases
Posted on May 18, 2010 | No CommentsOn the list of ways to not foster customer satisfaction, deleting purchased apps with no recourse for getting them back has to be very, very high on the list, doesn't it? T-Mobile's now trumpeting that sort-of-leaked official update for the HD2 that features "stability and performance improvements" on top of a new ROM-integrated T-Mobile MyAccount app, but if you purchased the full versions of the demo games that came bundled with your phone, beware: installing the upgrade will wipe you out, and the only advice T-Mobile has for you is to "re-purchase them at the standard cost." Gee, thanks, guys!

T-Mobile’s HTC HD2 gets updated
Posted on May 14, 2010 | No CommentsT-Mobile has posted a firmware update for its HD2 thatmiraculously, and against all odds, updates it to Windows Phone 7supposedly fixes a few bugs. You'll need your IMEI to kick off the process, so... you know, don't get any ideas if you're just a miscreant looking for an easy way to score a ROM for a phone you don't have. Let us know how it goes, won't you?T-Mobile's HTC HD2 gets updated originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Fri, 14 May 2010 11:21:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

Current T-Mobile customers having hard time upgrading to HTC HD2 (updated with statement)
Posted on May 7, 2010 | No Comments
First, the good news: T-Mobile's HD2 is in stock online and apparently at many corporate-owned retail locations. Now, the bad: the carrier seems to be putting these things on lockdown right now, only offering them to new customers signing up for a fresh contract. This is a tactic T-Mobile has applied in the past, so we're not terribly surprised to see them do it here, too -- but it's still a disappointment, especially considering that the phone has been out for a few weeks now. Just goes to show you that a net add is worth considerably more than a loyal customer is (particularly one who's still under contract), but in the meantime, might we recommend the iHTC HD2?
Update: We've received an official statement from T-Mobile on the matter, and it sounds like they're "giving priority to existing customers" with new inventory coming in. Sweet! Here's the full verbiage:"T-Mobile understands the inventory challenges for the HTC HD2 and continues to work diligently in order to supply our customers with this highly popular product. As we receive additional inventory of the HTC HD2, we are giving priority to our existing customers. However, the demand for the device is still exceeding our supply.
Depending on the location, some T-Mobile retail stores may still have some HTC HD2 inventory available. We suggest that interested customers contact their local T-Mobile store via phone before visiting to see if they have the HTC HD2 available. If they do not have the HTC HD2 available, some stores are taking names and contact information, and will be able to notify customers once that location has product available."Current T-Mobile customers having hard time upgrading to HTC HD2 (updated with statement) originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 07 May 2010 14:28:00 EST. Clearwire to offer WiMax phones from HTC and Samsung this year
Posted on May 6, 2010 | No Comments
Whenever we talk about WiMax phones (like the oh-so-drool-worthy EVO 4G), we're usually talking about Sprint. Well, Sprint's WiMax is powered by a (not so) little company called Clearwire (which, in turn, is 51% owned by Sprint) -- and they want some WiMax phones of their own.
During an earnings call yesterday, the company disclosed that they're planning on launching at least two WiMax handsets this year -- one from Samsung, and one from HTC. One will be powered by Android.. and the other? Its a mystery!

Keepin’ it real fake: HTC HD, too
Posted on May 6, 2010 | No CommentsIf you're going to rip off one of the more memorable Windows Mobile devices ever made, you'd think you'd want to at least clone its most notable feature -- but seriously, what do we know about the KIRF business? Yeah, well, this little number manufactured by a firm doing business as "iHTC" (no relation to HTC, we're sure) looks an awful lot like the HD2, but lacks that all-important 4.3-inch display, instead trading down for a more pedestrian 3.6-inch unit. On the upside, it's still WVGA and packs the latest and greatest Windows Mobile 6.5.3 (if "latest and greatest" really applies there) plus a 5 megapixel autofocus cam -- not bad specs for a device that eats copyrights for breakfast. Seems you can hunt one of these puppies down for about 1,580 yuan ($231), so start saving and packing for your Chinese adventure -- and in the meantime, follow the break for a comprehensive video demo of the finest technology iHTC has to offer.Continue reading Keepin' it real fake: HTC HD, too

T-Mobile: Give up your iPhone and we’ll give you $350 off an HD2
Posted on April 5, 2010 | No CommentsIt’s 6:30 am. The Alarm app on your iPhone screams to life, the handset vibrating across the table. You grab it before it shuffles off the edge. You stare at the screen. It stares back. “It’s 6:30 AM! Snooze?”, it says through a fake, one-tooth grin. “I hate you, iPhone. I wish you were an HD2.” If [...] -
Video: HTC HD2 gets Windows Phone 7, but not by Microsoft or HTC’s doing
Posted on March 29, 2010 | No CommentsThe second Microsoft announced Windows Phone 7 last month, the same question began pouring in en masse: “Will this run on my current Windows Mobile 6.5 device?” Microsoft was quick to crush everyone’s hopes , saying that no WinMo 6.5 devices were up to snuff. “But what about the HD2? That things like brand new [...]
