Maybe Hulu is right to block Boxee?

To quickly summarize, Boxee took issue with NBCU's Jeff Zucker's characterization that Boxee was some sort of rogue piece of software, and that Hulu is in the right whenever it blocks access to the XBMC-derived media player. How about this: maybe Hulu is right to block Boxee? Let's see where this takes us.

There simply isn't that many easy ways to get live OTA HDTV on your computer while there is a ton and a half available for the now-defunct analog signals. But Elgato just announced the low-cost -- and low feature -- EyeTV One ATSC TV Tuner that brings one more solution to the table. Don't run over to Amazon and buy this Windows and OS X device just yet. You might not want it once you hear what it can't do.

Haier Debuts LED HDTVs at CES

Haier, a maker of freezers, washing machines, televisions, water heaters, air conditioners, and microwave ovens, today at CES announced its ultra slim LED TV lineup. The company's first generation of LED TVs are available in 46”, 40”, 32”, 24”, 22” and 19” screen sizes. The 19” and 22” models start shipping in January and the other sizes shortly after that.

ESPN launching 3D network in June

ESPN has long been the leader in live HDTV and the network is about to stay ahead of the curve yet again by launching its own 3D network early this summer. But this network is just a test and ESPN is only committing to it through June 2011. So if you really want your kids growing up watching live 3D events, you better support ESPN's effort.

If you’re going to buy an HDTV, why do you still keep using standard-definition sources?
Posted on December 11, 2009 | No CommentsThis is definitely a case of preaching to the choir, but perhaps you have friends and/or family members in need of support. A survey just came out in the UK that says that while 56 percent of households have an HDTV, 91 percent of them still use standard-definition sources. That is, even though Mum and Dad have shelled out £900 for a 40-inch 1080 LCD, said TV is still connected to standard-def Sky box or plain ol' DVD player. What gives? Why spend the money on a new TV if you're not going to use it?
