Panasonic and LG plasma TVs to offer 720p HD video chats via Skype
Posted on January 5, 2010 | No Comments
TVs with Internet connectivity are nothing new, but this is pretty cool: As the world's first TV makers, Panasonic and LG are cooperating with Skype to incorporate the software, which will make it possible to video chat in 720p HD quality, into TVs.
According to a Japanese media report [registration required, paid subscription], Americans will be able to buy the Pansasonic TVs first (as early as this spring), followed by Japanese and Europeans in the summer. Skype itself, however, speaks of a release in mid-2010 for both the LG and Panasonic TVs.

The Boxee Box will rock your sox!
Posted on November 12, 2009 | No Comments
Boxee, everyone's favorite HTPC software, just announced that the company just partnered with its first CE company. But that's all the company is saying. We don't know anything else. However, there is an event coming up on December 7th right around the corner from John's house where we should learn more. I'm already excited though. Just think what this means.

Come on, everyone, of course Nintendo is working on the Wii HD
Posted on November 6, 2009 | No Comments
Nintendo's generally vocal president, Reggie Fils-Aime, made headlines today when again he denied that Nintendo was working on the Wii HD. He said, "I don't know how forcefully we can say there is no Wii HD." That's pretty clear, but it's also mostly a lie. What do you expect the man to say two months before Christmas? "Psst, don't buy the $200 Wii for your kid this year. We've got something real special coming in a few months. You're going to want that instead."
Does anyone seriously think that Nintendo is not building a high-def capable system? You can't even buy a SD TV larger than 20 inches anymore. Reggie probably told the truth when he said "there is no Wii HD" as it's probably not named Wii HD, but there has to be some sort of high-def gaming system in the works. If there isn't, Nintendo is in trouble.

Green: California getting closer to banning power-hungry TVs
Posted on October 15, 2009 | No CommentsUh oh, another vaguely political post on CrunchGear. As you already know, the Consumer Electronics Association, the trade group that organizes CES, is fighting tooth and nail against possible regulations that would see California essentially ban the sale of power-hungry HDTVs. This mostly affects plasmas because they consume the most electricity of the different types of TVs out there.

Sony outs the wireless, but overpriced, XBR10 BRAVIA LCD
Posted on September 9, 2009 | No Comments
We knew that when Sony announced the beautiful ZX5 in Europe a US model shouldn't be that far behind. And sure enough, Sony just announced the XBR10 which is pretty much a cloned version. It too rocks a wireless 1080p media receiver, edge-mounted LED backlighting, and 240Hz technology. We just wish that they weren't so damn expensive or at the very least made with localized dimming instead of edge-mounted LEDs.
