Verizon’s Droid Eris goes on permanent vacation
Posted on June 22, 2010 | No Comments
You might have figured that the recent update to Android 2.1 would've given Verizon's Droid Eris a few months of additional shelf life, but alas, it was not to be; the phone is no longer available from Verizon's online store, and we'd assume that any remaining inventory in the field will dwindle to nothingness in the coming weeks. If anything, it seems like the device -- basically a tweaked Hero -- would be able to effectively soldier on indefinitely for $50 or so on contract, but maybe the carrier's intent on keeping Android a higher-end affair for the time being. And hey, with the Droid X and Droid 2 coming any week now, we suppose it's getting pretty crowded anyhow. Ultra-cheap original Droid, anyone?

iPhone KIRFs up to 4.3-inch screen, claims invincibility from haters
Posted on June 17, 2010 | No CommentsHey, just because Apple won't make one doesn't mean you can't have a 4.3-inch iPhone. This here product of Chinese ingenuity offers you as much real estate as "the king of HTC HD2" while also throwing in both digital and analog TV tuners into the mix. When you factor in the dual SIM compatibility, 2 megapixel camera, WiFi, and removable back cover, it's enough for anyone to agree that "even a popular niche iPhone 4G had to step aside!"Continue reading iPhone KIRFs up to 4.3-inch screen, claims invincibility from haters

Orange and O2 announce UK iPhone 4 pricing
Posted on June 16, 2010 | No CommentsUK carrier Orange has already confirmed that it'll be joining in on the iPhone 4 party on June 24th, and it's just now revealed exactly how much the phone will cost you depending on the service you choose. As with the 3GS, the iPhone 4 is available on both monthly or pay-as-you-go plans, and actually starts as low as free for a 16GB iPhone 4 on the highest monthly plan (£75 per month) and goes all the way up to £570 (or $845) for an off-contract 32GB iPhone 4 on a pay-as-you-go plan. There's literally no less than twenty different price points in all, however, so be sure to hit up the source link below to see exactly what's available before you go line up.
Update: Hey, O2 has followed suit. Imagine that!

Dell Streak car and AV docks now on sale, HDMI may or may not be included
Posted on June 14, 2010 | No CommentsHey England, in need of some retail therapy after an unsatisfying sporting weekend? Dell's got the goods for you with a rich new selection of cables, plugs, adapters, and cases for your new Streak. It looks like the HDMI dock we've been jonesing for has probably become a retail reality, but there's no way to be sure right now -- Dell's only listing an AV dock without going into the TV connectivity options. The fresh offerings also include the kickstand-equipped wallet case that we found intriguing, spare battery and sync cables, and an international travel kit. Of course, every silver lining has a cloud, which in this case is the pricing: nothing here costs less than £24 ($35) and the car- and TV-enabling docks will set you back a cool £55 ($80) each. Jumbo smartphone, jumbo accessory prices.

Video Featuring An iPad, iPhone, Facebook And Twitter. Also, A Wedding.
Posted on June 10, 2010 | No Comments
We've seen a marriage proposal on an iPad (again, congratulations Zach, you dork) but what we hadn't seen yet - although I'm pretty sure this isn't a first - is an actual wedding ceremony riddled with iPads, iPhones, status updating on Facebook and Twitter and whatnot.
My wife would have called everything off if I would have even suggested such a thing, but hey, whatever floats your boat.
Congratulations to both of them.
Live long and prosper.

Nokia’s 16 model house reveals a smokin’ S series, N9 MeeGo?
Posted on June 9, 2010 | No CommentsLovely home except for those pesky leaks. This Nokia house built (circa 2010) upon on a foundation of Symbian with a MeeGo roof is also sporting an interesting looking S-series smokestack. Most of the building blocks we've already seen including the flagship N8. The N9 is almost certainly Nokia's followup to the N900 and Espoo's first handset to feature its new MeeGo OS. But what's with the business-class E7, mainstream C7, and socially entertaining X7? None of these handsets have been announced, yet all three are at the top-end of their respective series meaning mean more functionality at a higher price. Still, the most interesting revelation is the S-series which Nokia has never referenced under its new naming scheme. The translated text from the S-series bullet describes it as, "A name reserved for limited phones. Mobiles that do not fit in other categories come in here." The first Moorestown phone to run MeeGo, perhaps? Hey, we can dream.

China Telecom launches BlackBerry… the BlackBerry Storm, that is
Posted on May 18, 2010 | No CommentsWhen a carrier announces that it's adding BlackBerry devices and BES support to its lineup, very rarely does that mean a touchscreen BlackBerry -- but hey, crazier things have happened. China's CDMA-based giant, China Telecom, has announced a partnership with RIM to bring the Storm (the original 9530, as far as we can tell) into the mix in the second half of this month, available in some sixteen provinces for a yet-to-be-announced price. At any rate, it's fair to assume your privacy will be compromised at no additional charge.China Telecom launches BlackBerry... the BlackBerry Storm, that is originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Tue, 18 May 2010 16:08:00 EST. Apple doesn’t accept cash at the Apple Store, not even for an iPad
Posted on May 18, 2010 | No CommentsA human interest story, brought to us by the fine people at KGO-TV in San Francisco. It goes something like this: a woman had saved up for a very long time to buy an Apple iPad. So goes into an Apple Store, tells the clerk that she'd like to buy an iPad, then whips out the requisite $600. Six-hundred in cash, mind you. Then the Apple clerk drops a bombshell: sorry, but we don't accept cash here.

Palm Pre Plus launched on AT&T
Posted on May 16, 2010 | No CommentsThe boardroom drama behind the HP acquisition wasn't the only Palm news today -- the company also launched the AT&T Palm Pre Plus. No surprises here -- it's going to $149, decidedly more than Verizon's $29 with free Mobile Hotspot service -- but hey, at least it's out there, and you get a free Touchstone in the deal, so that's nice.
