The Google Phone Is Very Real. And It’s Coming Soon
Posted on November 18, 2009 | No Comments
The debate over Droid v. iPhone rages on, but lots more Android surprises are on the way. Get ready for the Google Phone. It's no longer a myth, it's real.
The next "super" Android device will almost certainly be a HTC phone that's much thinner than even the Droid or iPhone - The Dragon/Passion. This is the phone the senior Android guys at Google are now carrying around and testing, at least as of a couple of weeks ago. If you're willing to give up the Droid's keyboard, the Dragon/Passion is going to be a really cool phone. It should be fully available very soon.
But it isn't the Google Phone. Everything up until now has just been a warm up to the Google Phone.
Way more interesting are the rumors we've been hearing for months about a pure Google-branded phone. Most of our sources have unconfirmed information, which we describe below. But there are a few things we have absolutely confirmed: Google is building their own branded phone that they'll sell directly and through retailers. They were long planning to have the phone be available by the holidays, but it has now slipped to early 2010. The phone will be produced by a major phone manufacturer but will only have Google branding (Microsoft did the same thing with their first Zunes, which were built by Toshiba).
There won't be any negotiation or compromise over the phone's design of features - Google is dictating every last piece of it. No splintering of the Android OS that makes some applications unusable. Like the iPhone for Apple, this phone will be Google's pure vision of what a phone should be.
That's it for confirmed, super-high confidence information, which frankly isn't a whole lot more than we all heard back in late October. But we also have a few more details as well that we've gathered from a number of sources. Everything that follows we still consider to be just well-sourced rumors:

Just in time for the holidays ThinkGeek is proud to present the TaunTaun sleeping bag. Immortalized a last Spring in an April Fool's joke, interest was so high that ThinkGeek decided to make it. Now you can pretend you're brave Captain Kirk on the Ice Planet Hoth fighting the evil Ewok Empire and slaying the Cylons. Or something.

OMG! A leaked backplate for some sort of upcoming Apple device!
Posted on November 3, 2009 | No CommentsSo what’s all this then? A company called China Ontrade is selling an iPhone Generation 4 2010 backplate with camera holes for $23.42. China Ontrade, interestingly enough, was the company that started selling iPhone 3GS screens a few months before launch. What does this prove? Not much. Maybe they’re trying to drum up excitement or maybe [...] -

Casio’s G’zOne Rock C731 for Verizon oozes tough
Posted on October 22, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets, Verizon Wireless, EV-DO, CDMA, Casio
We've been hearing about Casio's next US-bound G'zOne for a while now, but the Rock's been taking its sweet time getting to market -- not unlike the EXILIM before it, we suppose. We still don't have a release here, but PhoneArena appears to have nabbed solid shots of the C731 in the wild, showing totally typical G'zOne styling cues with the pointy tips, textured components, and a total disregard for beauty (at least in the traditional sense of the word). They still haven't managed to scrounge up a possible release date -- but really, you could argue that the Boulder still has some life in it, so we wouldn't be surprised if this didn't hit until closer to the holidays at the earliest.Casio's G'zOne Rock C731 for Verizon oozes tough originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Thu, 22 Oct 2009 08:54:00 EST. Samsung Behold II handled with less battery than we’d like
Posted on October 8, 2009 | 1 CommentFiled under: Handsets, Features, Samsung, T-Mobile, GSM, EDGE, HSDPA, UMTS, Android
Yesterday we showed you this bad boy behind a thick, hand-stopping sheet of glass, and today, we're taking you just a little closer to the action. The emphasis has to be on "just a little," unfortunately, because neither T-Mobile nor Samsung were willing to slip a battery in the phone and let us play around with it, a surefire indication that the firmware isn't baked to a golden brown yet -- and when you consider that they're promising the Behold II in time for the holidays, the clock's definitely ticking. Would we pick this over a myTouch 3G? Probably, yeah -- especially with the better cam -- but let's be real, the Fender Limited Edition is another story altogether.

Posted on October 2, 2009 | No CommentsRumor has it that the Pixi is dropping on October 20, just in time for pre-holidays sales. Not much more on pricing or availability but expect it on Sprint. Upcoming Dell Adamo XPS measures less than 10mm thick
Posted on September 9, 2009 | No CommentsOh joy, another vague advertising campaign for Dell's Adamo line is underway. This time, it's the Adamo XPS. There's just a single specification, too: it's less than 10 millimeters thick.
Google loves you and wants to make sure your holiday travel isn't absolutely horrible by providing free Wi-Fi at 47 airports nationwide. Don't be evil, indeed.
Interesting. This little doodad is called FOTOBOX Plus. It’s an $80 USB apparatus that reads SD cards from your digital camera.
The idea is that you take a bunch of photos on your digital camera and then pop the SD card into the FOTOBOX Plus, which goes into your computer’s USB port. At that point, built-in slideshow software builds an automatic slideshow from your photos.
