Nokia downgrades sales forecasts thanks to ‘competitive environment’ (aka, ‘doing business’)
Posted on June 16, 2010 | No CommentsLook, Nokia, don't sweat it: no one could've ever predicted that Android would get more awesome, or that Apple would announce another iPhone. Sit down, let us bring you a cup of hot chocolate, you'll feel better... goodness, the mobile industry is filled with more wild plot twists than a Univision telenovela, isn't it? Unfortunately, your shareholders might be a little less understanding of the fact that you still haven't wrapped your noodle around the rapidly-changing smartphone market some three and a half years after the introduction of the original iPhone, or that you're blaming "shifts in product mix towards somewhat lower gross margin products" in part for your forecast downgrade -- even though you've been very candid about your desire to move the company's focus toward emerging markets. Why you can't manage to cobble together a competitive operating system with your overwhelming market share, cash, and resources is a bit of a mystery, but maybe it'll all make sense by the time you release second-quarter earnings on July 22.
Follow the break for the somber press release.Nokia downgrades sales forecasts thanks to 'competitive environment' (aka, 'doing business') originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 16 Jun 2010 15:56:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

Mini wireless keyboard with touchpad and laser pointer
Posted on March 5, 2010 | No Comments
The promises Brando makes about the “Rii Mini Wireless Keyboard” make it sound like a hug wrapped in hot chocolate wrapped in a puppy. There’s the “dazzling bright LED” backlighting, the world’s first touchpad that can be used in both the horizontal and vertical positions complete with advanced “capacitive sensing technology, comparable to a real notebook touchpad,” and the “innovative design of the navigation keys” that’ll make you “feel the thrill” of being able to play games wirelessly.

Disgusting: The GUMMI-X toy kit is an edible insect maker
Posted on January 13, 2010 | No Comments
What Japanese toy maker Megahouse is offering here is truly disgusting: A toy kit that you can use to form edible insects made of juice and other liquids. The so-called GUMMI-X [JP] is geared towards teenage boys, but it has the potential to seriously freak out certain adults, too.
Users will be able to create a total of four exotic insects and such that they can put into their meals. Choose between stag beetle, the Japanese rhinoceros beetle, the especially disgusting pill bug and the Procambarus clarkii, a freshwater crayfish. Other animals, a frog for example, are sold separately.
