USB 3.0 adoption could be slowed because of lack of demand
Posted on April 7, 2010 | No CommentsWilling to spend $300+ on a fancy motherboard just so you can get USB 3.0 support? Yeah, that might not be such a good idea, if only because Intel is in no hurry to integrate the spec into its chipsets. That means companies have to go out of their way to offer USB 3.0 on their systems. The odds of seeing USB 3.0 on a cheap-o netbook, then, are pretty much non-existent.

Forerunner: The secret Apple code for “This man will rob us”
Posted on April 6, 2010 | No Comments
So what the heck is going on here? A young man named
Owen JJ Stone went into an Apple store to buy a Macbook at the Santa Monica Apple store and requested a MacBook Pro. He was in a hurry and said so and suddenly one of the people helping him touched her ear and said "Forerunner." Bingo. That was the signal for a security lockdown.
The Apple folks then proceded to bring over a black man to complete his purchase - Owen is also black - and security essentially surrounded him until he picked up his item and left.

HP lets iPAQ Glisten out of the box
Posted on December 4, 2009 | No CommentsThe AT&T-bound iPAQ Glisten from HP has been unboxed for our viewing pleasure, video of which can be found immediately after the break. If you're not in such a hurry though, you'll want to know it's an AMOLED-fronted, Qualcomm-powered (533MHz) WinMo 6.5 device, which brings the BlackBerry form factor sans the RIM user experience, but plus a touchscreen. Another thing to note is that AT&T's online store will be the only place to get it, at the already announced $179.99 after rebates on a two-year deal. The video does a good job of comparing HP's return to the mobile space with a pair of similar devices, and we're left with the impression that it's a pretty chunky machine, but as usual we recommend seeing it for yourself -- and you already know where to find it.Continue reading HP lets iPAQ Glisten out of the box

Sony Announces $500 Netbook, Wins ‘Race to Bottom’
Posted on July 7, 2009 | No CommentsSony doesn’t make netbooks. The Vaio P, for example is absolutely, positively not a netbook. In fact, in February Sony senior vice president Mike Abary called the whole netbook market “a race to the bottom.” That’s right. Sony denied that it would make a netbook. So, as night follows day, we now have the Vaio W. A netbook. From [...] -
