EA drops fat cash on The Old Republic
Posted on March 11, 2010 | No CommentsWhat's it going to take to dethrone World of Warcraft? One of two things, I'd say: one, an asteroid smashing directly into the planet, with Blizzard at the exact location of impact, or two, Blizzard releasing World of Warcraft 2. The asteroid is more likely at this point. So you can imagine the time and money EA is putting into The Old Republic, the only MMO with a chance in hell of taking away even a fraction of WoW's subscribers.

Modern Warfare 2 DLC map pack coming to PC March 30, Xbox and PS3 shortly after
Posted on March 11, 2010 | No Comments
We featured a so-called leaked video showing MW2's upcoming map pack last week but had no idea when players will get access to the new maps. Activision finally came clean, though, and announced that the DLC will hit PCs first on March 30, with consoles getting it sometime afterwards. Oh, and yeah, it will be named Stimulus Package just like the rumor stated, which is a kind of appropriate name, actually.

HTC patent shows a new, spring-loaded clamshell design
Posted on February 5, 2010 | No CommentsHTC’s no stranger to stuffing ridiculous mechanisms into smartphones. I mean, have you seen the HTC Tilt — or better yet, the HTC Universal? Looks like they’re at it again, if this just unearthed patent is any indication. The graphic above may be a bit confusing, so here’s how it works: Imagine a clamshell phone, like the [...] -
Here’s Earth, but with Saturn-like rings
Posted on January 21, 2010 | No CommentsOh man. Imagine if the Earth had rings like Saturn. It’d be so cool! Instead of fighting traffic on your way to work every morning, you’d fight traffic on your way to work every morning while looking at the rings out your window! Instead of living in a basement apartment, you’d live in a basement [...] -
Video: HP has itself a Wall of Touch
Posted on January 20, 2010 | No CommentsWhat to make of HP's "Wall of Touch"? The Wall Street Journal has a nifty little write-up of the technology, and comes away like it just shook hands with Brock Lesnar's doctors. "Thank you so much, doctor!" The fact is, despite the fact that you don't actually touch the Wall of Touch, the idea of touchscreen interfaces is no longer foreign and exotic. We're several years after Jeff Han's big demonstration, plus there was that iPhone thing.

Samsung i899 does EV-DO, AMOLED, Android for China
Posted on December 31, 2009 | No CommentsImagine, if you will, a slightly revised Galaxy for CDMA with EV-DO Rev. A. What have you got brewing in your head right now? Odds are it looks a little something like this, Samsung's freshly-announced i899 for China. Since China Telecom is the patron saint of EV-DO over there, you can probably gather where this sucker will be going -- and it'll come in swinging big with WiFi, a 3.2-inch HVGA AMOLED display, 3.2 megapixel cam with flash, and an 800MHz core (probably the same one used in the Moment, if we had to guess). It'll be launching shortly -- but unless you happen to be in the area, this is probably going to be a tricky one to get.Samsung i899 does EV-DO, AMOLED, Android for China originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Thu, 31 Dec 2009 15:29:00 EST. Avatar has hit telesync, but by all reports you should just pay your money
Posted on December 20, 2009 | No CommentsImagine this in 3D. With like aliens popping out onto your lap. This telesync won’t be like that. Avatar is now a telesync, in English, but it seems the aliens in the copy are gray and everyone – I mean everyone – says to go see it in the theaters. If you can’t wait and/or you [...] -
Australian firm developing Doom-like 3D surveillance system
Posted on December 17, 2009 | No CommentsPretty fascinating story coming out of Australia this fine day. (Well yesterday. Or time zones. I don't know.) A research outfit there has won a AUS$1.01 million grant from the government to develop a 3D surveillance system that has been described as “Doom-like.” Someone call Anthony Cumia, he could use something like that.
