Video: Alice in Wonderland movie from 1903

Tim Burton's upcoming Alice in Wonderland movie is getting even us excited. But let's turn back time 107 years for a second to watch the first Alice in Wonderland movie ever made. This version from 1903 (imdb entry), recently restored by the British Film Institute, isn't even 10 minutes long, but it's pretty cool, especially when you consider when the movie was filmed.

Netflix sued in privacy suit over releasing movie rental records (in a roundabout way)

Netflix is in a spot of trouble. The movie rental company has been sued by a woman who claims that it ostensibly revealed her sexual orientation. Against her wishes, obviously. Such an act amounted to an invasion of privacy, the suit argues.

New device coming from Syabas, the makers of Popcorn Hour, at CES ‘10

Popcorn Hour is a great product and loved by many nerds. But that's just it, the device is somewhat nerdy. Apparently the maker, Syabas, has another Internet-connected device coming and it will be shown off at CES 2010. While certain key points are missing right now like the price, availability, and hardware specs, what little info I do have makes this box sound promising indeed.

Next up on Boxee: Sony Picture’s Crackle

Boxee is only days away from announcing the details about its upcoming hardware venture, and the good news keeps rolling. Crackle, which is a site I've never heard of but is apparently a division of Sony Pictures Entertainment, is the latest video site to be available on Boxee. Actually, this is really good news for Boxee users. Crackle has some great shows.

The first Avatar trailer is here (update: American version)

James Cameron's highly anticipated Sci-Fi movie Avatar (to be released on December 18) has been getting a lot of hype in the last few months, and now Fox gives us the trailer for the movie. But judging from this 2-minute teaser trailer, Avatar will look pretty cartoony/video game-ish (this is my impression at least).

  • District 9 loved on IMDb, ranked 8.9 out of 10

District 9 loved on IMDb, ranked 8.9 out of 10

As just discussed in the CrunchGear chatroom, I don't know anything about District 9 because I'm eventually going to see it. All I need to know is that right now the movie is ranked number 26 on IMDB's top 250 list and has an 8.9 out of 10 rating. If the movie keeps the 8.9 rating after more votes are submitted, it will surpass The Dark Knight (8.8), Star Wars (8.8), The Empire Strikes Back (8.8), and LOTR: Return of the King (8.8) as the top Sci-fi movie of all time. Not that I'm going to read these comments because they will certainly contain spoilers, but is the movie really that good? Like better than The Dark Knight good?
