iTunes 9.1 is live, iPad syncing, modded Genius Mixes added
Posted on March 30, 2010 | No Comments
Tunes 9.1 just went live. I'm digging through to see what's new in this version, but iTunes just updated to 9.1. It seems you actually have to go to the Apple.com/itunes site to download it because my System Update and the Update Software command in iTunes didn't catch it.

New Facebook for webOS Beta brings notifications at last
Posted on March 29, 2010 | No CommentsThe new Facebook for webOS application that launched earlier this month brought a massive overhaul and a laundry list of needed improvements, but it lacked one thing that users have been clamoring for since the beginning: notifications. webOS’ notifications system is one of its greatest strengths, allowing alerts to pop up on screen in a [...] -

The Cliq XT/Quench drops, brings Android 1.5 in tow
Posted on February 15, 2010 | No CommentsMotorola is keeping the Android party rocking with the Cliq XT — or Quench in Euroland. The handset doesn’t bring anything we haven’t seen before including the aging Android 1.5 release along with Motorola’s social media-centric MOTOBLUR home screen replacement. A respectable 3.1-inch 320 x 480 occupies the front, while a 5.0 MP cam with [...] -
Sprint Samsung Moment updated for anyone willing to leave their house
Posted on January 15, 2010 | No Comments
Remember the good ol' days of being a cell phone owner? Back when you could probably name every color your screen could display, 2G data connections were mind blowing, and gettin' your firmware flashed meant taking a trip to the good ol' neighborhood carrier outlet? Yeah - we're back to that.

Hands on with the Pixi Plus and Pre Plus
Posted on January 7, 2010 | No CommentsWe just did some live video from the Palm lounge where we saw the Pixi and Pre Plus, two improvements to the current WebOS line-up. Notable points? The 3D gaming was quite impressive and the design has been considerably improved in this iteration. For one, there is no button on either device. Instead, you get a [...] -

Who killed Duke Nukem?
Posted on December 22, 2009 | No Comments
All in all, this year had very little vapor (I know, I know, but that wasn't vapor). In honor of this year of solidity, Wired wrote a nice article about Duke Nukem Forever, one of the vaporest of vaporgames. The article discusses how success, not failure, doomed the game to oblivion. It's hard to understand how great this game was when it came out.

Seagate to announce new ultra-thin drives at CES
Posted on December 10, 2009 | No Comments
Seems like Seagate is trying to make up for some lost time in the storage technology field. After a late entry into the SSD market, Seagate may be getting a jump start on the ultra-thin drive market. One of the issues with the new ultra-thin generation of notebook computers is the hard drive size. You can only make a computer so thin before you run into issues with the thickness of the components.

First Droid Eris update makes the slow OTA rollout starting tonight
Posted on December 9, 2009 | No Comments
Sorry, no Android 2.0 here (yet), but Verizon's version of the HTC Hero is now getting its first over-the-air update. Known by its affection title of Droid Eris ROM:1.16.605.1, the patch is more or less the usual minor tweaks and improvements, although those who like to dramatically hang up on someone should be advised that the phone goes into screensaver while on call, and two presses of the End key will be required to exit the mode and then conclude said conversation. The week-long rollout starts at midnight ET tonight, but as usual, it could take up to a week to hit your system. Full patch notes after the break.

Samsung unleashes WinMo 6.5 upgrade for AT&T’s Jack
Posted on November 4, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Software, Samsung, ATT, Windows Mobile
It's not often that a manufacturer pushes a Windows Mobile version bump in a timely fashion, so color us impressed to see that Samsung has now released an official 6.5 upgrade for the Jack on AT&T. 6.5 is a relatively minor bump over 6.1 in the non-touch Standard world -- Professional devices are getting the lion's share of improvements -- but users will be happy to find that they're getting an updated Internet Explorer Mobile, Windows Marketplace access, and automated free connections to AT&T WiFi hotspots (anything to offload cellular strain, right?). Grab it now from Samsung's site, make sure your battery's charged, and let 'er rip.Samsung unleashes WinMo 6.5 upgrade for AT&T's Jack originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Wed, 04 Nov 2009 19:21:00 EST. Verizon Storm2 on October 28th, BlackBerry OS 5.0 for original Storm out now
Posted on October 26, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets, Software, RIM, Verizon Wireless, EV-DO, CDMA, BlackBerry OS

If you have an original Storm purchased through Verizon then first, our condolences. At the risk of rubbing it in (since you're still on contract) we have to tell you that the second generation Storm2 -- the full-screen BlackBerry you should have waited for -- just got an official $179.99 (after $100 mail-in rebate and 2-year contract) October 28th release date as expected. Storm owners can, however, take solace in the BlackBerry OS 5.0 update now available for download that boasts several improvements including those keyboard and general usability enhancements we already knew were coming.Verizon Storm2 on October 28th, BlackBerry OS 5.0 for original Storm out now originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Mon, 26 Oct 2009 07:17:00 EST.
