Vonage goes where Google Voice can’t: the App Store

Talk about strange - while Google Voice can’t get so much as their foot in the App Store’s door, Vonage has just done a pirouette and waltzed right through. According to a recent release from the Jersey-based VOIP giant, their new Vonage mobile application has been approved for inclusion into Apple’s App Store as soon [...]

Bay hates Dinobots, probably won’t be included in Transformers 3

I liked the Dinobots as a kid and wouldn’t mind seeing them in the third Transformers movie, but who am I kidding? I’m still unhappy with Prime’s moving lips. And for the record, I thought Revenge of the Fallen was entertaining even though Sam ends up in Prime heaven. Anyway, comicbookmovie.com is reporting that Bay was [...]

EA game doesn’t appear to be stumbling block for Fedor to fight in UFC

Here's an update to something I touched on the other day: Does Fedor's inclusion in EA's MMA video game preclude him from fighting in the UFC? Apparently not, if you believe what UFC president Dana White said at a press conference yesterday.

  • Microsoft confirms: no three app limit in Windows 7 Starter

Microsoft confirms: no three app limit in Windows 7 Starter

We'd heard it through the grapevine that Microsoft was gearing up to right the wrong and nix that ludicrous three application limit for Windows 7 Starter Edition, and sure enough, it did just that via The Windows Blog. The company admitted that it was removing the three application at-a-time limit previously slated for inclusion in Win7 Starter "based on the feedback it has received from partners and customers." (Psst... thanks for yelling, people!) That said, the OS is still severely gimped, with no multi-monitor support, DVD playback, Windows Media Center, remote media streaming, XP Mode or network connectivity. Just kidding on that last one... we think.

  • Dell Studio 14z hands-on

    Dell Studio 14z hands-on

We got a quick look at Dell's new Studio 14z thin-and-light, budget-friendly laptop, and were mildly impressed. The thing is lighter than it looks, has a great blend of performance, price, inputs and outputs, and doesn't even look too frumpy to boot. The chiclet-ish keyboard is fine, though not great, and while the lack of Studio XPS-style leather frills and capacitive touch controls might be seen as a drawback to some, we actually like the no-nonsense approach. The inclusion of HDMI, eSATA and an ExpressCard 34 slot are pretty clutch for this form factor and price, and while a cheap external drive might be necessary for occasional use at the desk, the removal of it makes total sense for the target audience of students. Perhaps most astonishing, however, is that Dell has finally figured out that people care what the bottom of their computer looks and feels like -- and this one feels great. It's a whole new world, people.

LG launches DTXTR Tool to help parents understand what their kids are TXTING

LG has launched an amusing (and for some, useful) application that enables you to translate over 2000 words teens tend to use when they're sending text messages to regular English, and the other way around. The tool is called DTXTR and the aim is to let is keep you in the know of what these kids are txting bout these days, xactli. Frankly, there are a lot of basic words that can't be converted to 'teen text' with the tool yet, but you can always submit a term for inclusion in the glossary. And if you want to test your own mad txt skills, you can do a little quiz on the site to see if you're up with the times or not.
