Apple CDMA iPhone 4 rumor given new wings

With the iPad unicorn now slain, what other beast can DigiTimes shackle its rumor mongering machine to? How about Pegasus, the winged horse of Greek mythology (and inspiration for the ASUS company name), galloping forth with promises of a CDMA iPhone. According to the Taiwanese rumor rag, Pegatron (ASUStek's OEM manufacturing arm) will begin shipping a CDMA version of the iPhone 4 from its Shanghai plants to Apple in Q4. Right, just in time for the holiday shopping season and perfectly alligned with Apple's annual September iPod event... you know, should Apple want to announce a deal with Verizon.

Can you guess the inspiration for the Bionic Handling Assistant?

What you see here is the Bionic Handling Assistant, a sort of robotic arm designed to improve the interaction between humans and robots. Clearly this thing was inspired by Doc Ock from Spider-Man, right? There can be no doubt! Look at those articulated arms. Look at those pincers. Look at the sheer menace these things give off! Doc Ock all the way, am I right?

Microsoft Stores coming to Denver and San Diego

Right now there are only two Microsoft retail outlets, one in Phoenix, AZ and another in Mission Viejo, CA. These locations opened last year to much singing and dancing, but soon there will be two more. According to a job posting on Microsoft's site, Denver and San Diego will soon be home to their very own Microsoft Stores.

Your Comments Are Safe With Us

About half an hour ago, a post that was published on the Digital Inspiration blog hit Techmeme. The title of that post left little to the imagination: it read “TechCrunch Removes Reader Comments From All Older Blog Posts”. That allegation in itself is inaccurate, as is most of the rest of the article, so I felt compelled to respond quickly and offer our side of the story. Which, on a sidenote, we weren’t asked for by the person or people behind the blog (at least not to my knowledge).

Depot Angel: Japanese company sells pre-fabricated basements (video)

About a year ago, I blogged about Yamaha's portable room that you could set up in bigger rooms to have your well-deserved quiet time. And now another Japanese company called Tamada brings us something similar: The Depot Angel [JP] (what a name), a pre-fabricated basement that can be, again, used to enjoy some alone time, as a storage room or as anything you'd like it to be. The main idea is to create additional space for Japanese households at relatively affordable prices. Seeing that real estate in Japan is (generally speaking) pretty expensive, it might make sense for some families in this country to get one Depot Angel and bury it under their house.

British steam-powered car poised to break speed record

Once upon a time, I was driving a VW Golf, and was able to get it up to a whopping 80 MPH. I sure felt cool, but I'd look like a complete fool compared to the Inspiration, a British steam-powered car that's about to try to break the land speed record of 170 MPH.

New service enables total control of factory workers

In principle, any advance in any field of technology is welcome, but I have my doubts about this new service developed by a Japanese company called DSS. It's basically aimed at establishing a "big brother"-like control system [JP, PDF] within factories.

Leopard: Oki starts selling robotic chair in Japan

I blogged Leopard, a robotic office chair, last November when it still was in prototype status. Now, more than half a year later, the chair finally went on sale in Japan. And it might find its way outside this country as well, as both Japanese companies involved in the development of the chair, office equipment maker Oki and furniture company Okamura, are active overseas.
