For example: 32% of users listen [...]

  • Update: Downgrading to 2.4 is the best way to get back Boxee and XMBC back on your Apple TV

Update: Downgrading to 2.4 is the best way to get back Boxee and XMBC back on your Apple TV

To repeat, do not upgrade your Apple TV to 3.0 if you're running hacked ATV plugins like XBox Media Center or Boxee. I'm sure this will be fixed in a matter of days - if not hours - but as of right now it means a ride on the Failboat to Sad Trombone Town. That's right: this update destroys the only thing that makes Apple TV usable and good. Also, as an added bonus, Apple TV firmware 3.0 is insignificant. It adds Internet radio to the package and improves the UI. It also adds Genius playlists. My cup, as they say, runneth over. UPDATE - Post has been update with instructions for downgrading to firmware 2.4.

Sony outs the wireless, but overpriced, XBR10 BRAVIA LCD

We knew that when Sony announced the beautiful ZX5 in Europe a US model shouldn't be that far behind. And sure enough, Sony just announced the XBR10 which is pretty much a cloned version. It too rocks a wireless 1080p media receiver, edge-mounted LED backlighting, and 240Hz technology. We just wish that they weren't so damn expensive or at the very least made with localized dimming instead of edge-mounted LEDs.

I did my part to help out radio today

It's no secret that I think the radio business is doomed, and that “kids today” are more likely to listen to music via any number of online services—I'm part of Spotify's U.S. beta, and aside from an unacceptable lack of Sleater-Kinney, it's pretty great—than they are by tuning into some “local” radio station, where the program manager is a boob and the on-air talent is petrified of upsetting management. Anyway, sometime during the winter, I received a letter from Nielsen, the famous ratings company, that asked me to participate in a radio survey, helping them find out how many people listen to each radio station and whe
