HP says it’s in the smartphone market, after all
Posted on June 3, 2010 | No Comments
HP CEO Mark Hurd certainly caused a few sad faces yesterday when he told investors and analysts that HP "didn't buy Palm to be in the smartphone business," and now the company is trying to walk that back a little -- rest easy, folks, because there are definintely more webOS smartphones on the way. Apparently what Hurd was really trying to say was that HP is excited about using webOS as the foundation for all types of smaller web-connected devices, and smartphones are just a part of that universe -- a part HP intends to pursue. Phew. Now, can we see these new webOS devices, please? Here's the full statement from HP:
When we look at the market, we see an array of interconnected devices, including tablets, printers, and of course, smartphones. We believe webOS can become the backbone for many of HP's small form factor devices, and we expect to expand webOS's footprint beyond just the smartphone market, all while leveraging our financial strength, scale, and global reach to grow in smartphones.HP says it's in the smartphone market, after all originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 03 Jun 2010 17:57:00 EST. Sprint places foot in mouth, dissing the Pre while lusting after the iPhone
Posted on May 19, 2010 | No Comments
At a recent investor conference, Sprint's Chief Financial Officer, Robert Brust, admitted to investors that "The Pre didn't work out as well as we hoped" (even despite its exciting appearance in Survivor: Heroes vs Villains) and that they'd "love to have" the iPhone.

The Nintendo 3DS won’t be called the 3DS
Posted on May 11, 2010 | No Comments
This is strange. Apparently Nintendo has yet to announce the formal name of its upcoming portable 3D gaming device. That means the clever 3DS name we've come to know isn't the real thing. But seriously, is there a name better than 3DS seeing as it's a 3D version of the DS? Unless it's nothing like the DS...maybe this wasn't a fan-made mock-up after all.

Palm stock continues to climb, all thanks to the Rumor Mill
Posted on April 9, 2010 | No CommentsTwo days ago, something crazy happened: after spiraling downward for almost a year, Palm’s stock finally started to climb thanks to a rumor that Lenovo was considering snatching the injured company up. We expected things to level off pretty quickly — and they did, at a growth of right around 20% with a going price [...] -
Palm now worth nothing
Posted on March 20, 2010 | No CommentsWoof. Analysts have placed a sell rating on Palm and are now valuing their stock, at least in hyperbolic terms, at $0. Quoth CNN:
Shares of Palm (PALM) plunged 19% to $4.59 a share early Friday, a new 52-week low. Investors are becoming increasingly pessimistic about the company's future and several analysts downgraded their positions on the stock to "sell." Two analysts even lowered their price targets to $0.

Apple & Google clash over “Android” in the App Store
Posted on February 5, 2010 | No CommentsAnd the Apple-Google war continues. This time, instead of just bad-mouthing each other, Apple is running with a strategy that they’re no stranger to: censoring words in the App Store. Instead of just “boobs” and “booty”, which they don’t seem to have a problem with anymore, Apple’s new target is the word “Android”. Now, Apple only [...] -
LG gets bragging rights for Japan’s first certified 4G device
Posted on February 3, 2010 | No Comments
The rest of the world is catching on rapidly but overall, Japan is still the world's most advanced society mobile society. That being said, you'd assume that the first 4G (LTE) device to get an official certification from Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications must be coming from one of the many mobile companies over here, but it was South Korea's LG who got the bragging rights [KR] for that today.

HTC releases Droid Eris source code
Posted on February 1, 2010 | No Comments
HTC's been pretty good about celebrating the open-source spirit of Android. Whenever they release a new Android device, the source code for whatever goods they added on top of the stock firmware comes pouring in before too long.
It took just a bit over two months, but HTC has just released the code bundle for the Verizon Droid Eris. If you're wondering, "Great! What does that mean for me?" then hop on behind the jump.

Motorola MOTOSPLIT makes the Backflip look normal
Posted on January 25, 2010 | No Comments
Motorola's by no means a stranger to phones with wonky form factors. I mean, just look at the Moto Backflip - the keyboard! It's on the back! What is this, the future?
It gets crazier, friends.
