Oh, by the way: iOS 4 is now available.
Posted on June 21, 2010 | No CommentsIn the off chance that you’re not already running the leaked iOS 4 gold master and haven’t been pounding the iTunes update button all morning, we figured you’d probably like to know: iOS 4 is now available for iPhones and iPod Touches. I could blather on about the new features, like multi-tasking, folders, wallpapers, digital [...] -
iOS 4 now available for your iPhone 3G, 3GS, newer-generation iPod touches
Posted on June 21, 2010 | No Commentsdigg_url = 'http://digg.com/apple/iOS_4_now_available'; Right on time, Apple has unleashed iOS 4 for owners of the iPhone product codes 1,2, 2,1, and 3,1 -- in other words, the 3G, 3GS, and yet-unreleased iPhone 4. Owners of more recent iPod touches are also in luck. Interestingly, the build is 8A293 -- the exact same that was released to developers before as a GM seed -- so Apple apparently found no showstoppers pressing enough to necessitate a new build before pushing it to the public at large. It's coming up in iTunes now, so go on -- what are you waiting for?

Apple launches ‘Find My iPhone’ app to remotely wipe and find your lost treasure
Posted on June 18, 2010 | No CommentsStay with us here because this one isn't obvious. Apple just launched its Find My iPhone app on the iTunes App Store -- a service previously limited to MobileMe's web interface. The App will find your iPhone or iPad or iPod touch should it be lost or stolen. So obviously, you don't install it on your lost/stolen device, you install it on a different iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, yours or somebody else's (try a Starbucks). Panicked owners can then login with their MobileMe account to map their missing property and then remotely lock the device or wipe the data. The App can only be installed on iOS 3.1.3 or later devices and is available now for free.

Apple CDMA iPhone 4 rumor given new wings
Posted on June 17, 2010 | No CommentsWith the iPad unicorn now slain, what other beast can DigiTimes shackle its rumor mongering machine to? How about Pegasus, the winged horse of Greek mythology (and inspiration for the ASUS company name), galloping forth with promises of a CDMA iPhone. According to the Taiwanese rumor rag, Pegatron (ASUStek's OEM manufacturing arm) will begin shipping a CDMA version of the iPhone 4 from its Shanghai plants to Apple in Q4. Right, just in time for the holiday shopping season and perfectly alligned with Apple's annual September iPod event... you know, should Apple want to announce a deal with Verizon.Apple CDMA iPhone 4 rumor given new wings originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 17 Jun 2010 07:41:00 EST. iTunes 9.2 is out, ready to hook up with your iPhone 4
Posted on June 16, 2010 | No CommentsIt looks like iTunes 9.2 has just hit the Software Update screens of computers across the land, and if you've got an iPhone 4 on order, this is one you'll want to get around to installing in the next few days -- it's the only way you'll be able to sync (actually, you'll want it if you're using iOS 4 on any manner of iPhone). Major features include iBooks support on the iPhone and iPod touch, PDF syncing through iBooks, home screen folder organization, and "faster backups" with iOS 4-equipped devices -- a promising sign for anyone troubled by long sync times. Follow the break for Apple's full rundown.Continue reading iTunes 9.2 is out, ready to hook up with your iPhone 4

Protect your iDevice from theft. Sorta
Posted on June 12, 2010 | No Comments
So you're at the coffee shop, and you've walked over to the counter to order another half-frap-double shot raspberry no fat mocha, and left your iPad (or iPod) plugged into your laptop. Suddenly, that skeevy looking fellow who was sitting two tables away makes a grab for your iPad, and runs for the door! You don't see him because you were looking away, but you still know your kit has been boosted! How do you know? Well, you had the PadLock installed.

Apple rolling iBooks out across iOS 4 devices, get your Winnie the Pooh now
Posted on June 11, 2010 | No CommentsNo shock and awe here, Apple's already given us plenty of warnings, but we thought we'd drop you a friendly note to say that if you've upgraded to iOS 4 early, your copy of Winnie the Pooh is flying at you right this minute. Tipsters points out that they get a notification encouraging them to download the heretofore iPad-exclusive iBooks app, though they're finding they have to do it via their desktop iTunes client rather than over the air. Ah well, Apple's probably being extra cautious with moving those big wooden bookshelves into the smaller dimensions of your iPhone or iPod touch. We've not been able to get the app running on our iPhone 3G, so perhaps this is another of those features you're not going to be able to enjoy on older hardware -- we hope it's just us though.

Verizon adds more phones to FiOS Mobile Remote and Remote DVR Manager compatibility list
Posted on May 24, 2010 | No CommentsDid you notice that there were some fresh devices listed when the iPhone popped up on Verizon's FiOS Mobile Remote compatibility chart last week? Sure enough, Big Red ended up dropping some PR on the matter, taking the opportunity to pimp the fact that over a quarter million users have now downloaded its two-pack of FiOS mobile apps. Mobile Remote is now available on the Nexus One, Droid Eris, and Droid Incredible -- in fact, it should work on any Android 2.1-equipped phone -- and Remote DVR Manager is live for more than 50 devices, including the iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and "most" Verizon BlackBerrys. Between the two, you can control your set-top box from your couch or the other side of the world; too bad we're telling you this the day after Lost, right?Verizon adds more phones to FiOS Mobile Remote and Remote DVR Manager compatibility list originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Mon, 24 May 2010 16:27:00 EST. HTC Countersues Apple, Claims Apple Is Infringing On Five Patents
Posted on May 12, 2010 | No Comments
HTC has just announced that it is suing Apple for violating five of its patents, and is asking the US International Trade Commission to "halt the importation and sale of the iPhone, iPad, and iPod in the United States". The move comes in response to a suit Apple filed against HTC in March that listed over 20 patents HTC is allegedly violating with its Android devices.
From HTC's press release:
Seattle – May 12, 2010 – HTC Corporation today took legal action against Apple Inc., filing a complaint with the United States International Trade Commission (ITC) to halt the importation and sale of the iPhone, iPad and iPod in the United States.
