And it appears as if the 12.1MP device sold really well, too, as Casio today in Japan announced [JP] two limited edition colors (the EX-G1 GN in green and the EX-G1 SR in silver).

And yet another 3D news item from Japan. This time, it's Panasonic, which today announced [JP] two new 3D plasma TVs, the 42-inch TH-P42VT2, and the 46-inch TH-P46VT2. Both VIERAs require active shutter glasses to view images in 3D and both feature full HD resolution.

Panasonic yesterday announced [JP] what it says is the world's lightest full HD camcorder, the HDC-TM35. Sized at 51.5×107.5×57.5mm and weighing just 185g, the device is mainly targeted at women and will be available in white, purple, grey, and "gold".

Panasonic unveils super-light convertible tablet PC

Panasonic in Japan today announced [JP] the "Let’s Note CF-C1", which the company says is among the world's lightest convertible tablet PCs. The latest addition to Panasonic's "Let's Note" series of notebooks weighs just 1.46kg (including the battery, 1.67kg with two batteries). The company says it was able to push down the weight by choosing lighter materials and changing the display's open-close and rotating mechanisms.

NEC to ship Blu-ray powered 3D PC in Japan next month

The company's faster than expected: just last month, NEC teased such a machine in Tokyo, saying it's likely to ship by October 2010. But Japan will get the PC as early as next month. And it appears to be a pretty cool machine.

Sony announces portable DVD player with LED backlight and 7.5 hours of battery life

We have numerous super-light laptops, a plethora of netbooks, and the iPad to choose from. But some companies still produce portable DVD players. One example is Sony, which yesterday in Japan announced [JP] just that, the DVP-FX950. The player has two selling points: a 9-inch LCD screen that features an LED backlight and a battery life of 7.5 hours (up 25% from the previous model).

Audio-Technica today in Japan announced [JP] diamond-shaped portable speakers, dubbed Bijoué/AT-SPF30, which are especially geared towards female users. Technically, the speakers aren't special: you'll get 600mW/φ28mm full range speakers running on two AAA batteries for 33 hours continuously.

One of the biggest problems that stands between electric vehicles and becoming mainstream is limited battery life. But there has been some progress in that area lately: the Japan Electric Vehicle Club [JP], a civic group based in Tokyo, announced today a Mira EV customized by the group traveled exactly 1,003.184 kilometers without a recharge.

Meguru: Japan’s bamboo-powered electric car (videos)

Jointly developed by Osaka-based Yodogawa and Kinki Knives Industries, the Meguru is powered by a lithium-ion battery that, once fully charged, offers a travel distance of 25 miles. The vehicle, which is actually registered as a car, reaches a top speed of 25mph.

Fujitsu teases 3D desktop PC with built-in 3D camera

Another day, another 3D-related tech news item from Japan. This time, it's a 3D-powered desktop PC Fujitsu is currently demoing at a two-day company event (Fujitsu Forum [JP]) in Tokyo. It's not only able to display 3D images but also has a 3D camera built-in (just above the display).
