Just met with Kensington here at CES and they’ve got a universal notebook charger coming out next month that uses 30% less energy than conventional adapters and is, perhaps more importantly, very nicely sized at 4.5" x 2.2" x 0.8" – the photos don’t quite do it justice. I thought it was a larger external backup battery for a cell phone at first.

Short Version: If you’ve never purchased a charging dock for your iPhone or iPod Touch and you’re without an alarm clock then the Kensington Nightstand is a perfect alternative for you, friend. Being able to check on the weather first thing in the morning is an added bonus. The $40 price tag might give some of you sticker shock considering the Rise & Shine app is free from the App Store, but a quick look around to other iPhone/iPod accessory vendors quickly reveals that the Nightstand is actually a good deal. Kensington's rolling out some new accessories today, a couple for the iPhone/iPod and a couple laptop stands. The two iPod devices are pretty interesting. First, the "Charging Dock with Mini Battery Pack for iPhone and iPod" is pretty much exactly like it sounds.

Isn’t this the perfect solution for anyone with an iPhone or iPod Touch (or any iPod for that matter)? I think so. Kensington’s combo charging dock and mini battery pack for the entire iPod family is up for pre-order now. The dock is compatible with the “iPhone 3G, iPhone, iPod touch, iPod nano (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th gen), iPod classic, iPod mini, iPod (1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th gen).” The mini battery pack charges simultaneously as your iPod when docked and will add up to 30 hours of music, six hours of video and three hours of talk time. Not bad for $70.
