    San Francisco passes law requiring mandatory display of phone radiation levels

    Despite scientific studies showing no link between tumours and mobile phone radiation, San Francisco have decided that it is in the consumer's best interest to clearly display the specific absorption rates (SAR) emitted by every phone sold. The law requires phone retailers to display this information next to each phone in their store in at least 11 point type.

    Yamaha Japan announces 5 new electric bikes

    While electric bikes are gaining more and more ground in Japan, the situation in the rest of the world (at least for highly advanced models) is quite different. These vehicles seem to have a hard time in America in particular, although there's anecdotal evidence the concept does have the potential to catch on in the US as well - basically speaking. But most of the makers of these bikes, powerhouses such as Panasonic or Sanyo, never tested waters outside Japan. Yamaha, another such company, now announced [JP] a total of five electric bikes over the weekend, all of which are likely to never find their way outside Japan. The new models are part of Yamaha's series of PAS electric bikes.

    Depot Angel: Japanese company sells pre-fabricated basements (video)

    About a year ago, I blogged about Yamaha's portable room that you could set up in bigger rooms to have your well-deserved quiet time. And now another Japanese company called Tamada brings us something similar: The Depot Angel [JP] (what a name), a pre-fabricated basement that can be, again, used to enjoy some alone time, as a storage room or as anything you'd like it to be. The main idea is to create additional space for Japanese households at relatively affordable prices. Seeing that real estate in Japan is (generally speaking) pretty expensive, it might make sense for some families in this country to get one Depot Angel and bury it under their house.

    LaVie Light: NEC Japan launches new netbook series

    Nec Japan today announced two netbooks [JP], the BL100 and the BL300/310/350, which are completely redesigned and come with Windows XP pre-installed. The new netbooks are part of the NEC LaVie series and are labeled "LaVie Light" because of the BL100 weighing just 1.07 kg and the BL300/310/350 models weighing 1.14kg or 1.32kg, depending on the model.
