The first sample videos from the Sony Ericsson Vivaz are out and kind of incredible
Posted on February 3, 2010 | No Comments
The Sony Ericsson Vivaz (previously known as "Kurara") still doesn't have an official release date, but it looks like someone in Sony Ericsson's camp has been playing with one lately. The company just released a pair of sample videos, marking the first time anyone outside of SE has seen footage shot on this handset. Now, given that one of the flagship features of this handset is its 720p video recording mode, we didn't exactly expect the camera quality to be garbage - but hot damn are these videos impressive.

Sony Ericsson Kurara accidentally announced early, now known as “Vivaz”
Posted on January 20, 2010 | No CommentsDon’t you just hate it when some big dumb press release company spills the beans on your top secret product long before you intended? Wait, you’ve never experienced that? Well, neither have we. We were just trying to, you know, connect with our readers or something. Sony Ericsson, on the other hand, has felt that burn. [...] -
Unnamed Sony Ericsson QWERTY phone spotted in the wild [Updated]
Posted on January 4, 2010 | No CommentsI’ll go ahead and say it: the fact that this unnamed, mostly undetailed Sony Ericsson touchscreen/QWERTY handset is running Symbian S60 5th Edition rather than Android is a travesty. We only know that it’s running 5th Edition because of the one leaked shot you see above — and outside of that, we dont know a whole [...] -
Sony Ericsson U5i passes FCC muster, but what is it?
Posted on December 23, 2009 | No CommentsThere's a new Sony Ericsson in town, and it's not the X10 for a change of pace -- this time, it's a mysterious device known simply as the "U5i." That certainly follows SE's classic naming convention, but what might give us the best clue is that the Satio is known as the U1 and the Aino as the U10 -- in other words, we're probably looking at a full-touch handset of some sort. Coincidentally, Cellpassion had previously dug up a user agent profile for a U5i, calling out a 640 x 360 display, 2 megapixel cam (what?), and Symbian -- so if those numbers pan out, we might not be looking at a "Satio killer," so to speak. Then again, we've also seen the U5 model number associated with that 8.1 megapixel Kurara, so it's anyone's guess what's really going on here until we see something official. At any rate, it's interesting to be distracted momentarily from the company's Android efforts; Symbian might have some life left in it after all, yeah?Sony Ericsson U5i passes FCC muster, but what is it? originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Wed, 23 Dec 2009 22:29:00 EST. Sony Ericsson Kurara has speedy Cortex A8, PowerVR purring inside
Posted on November 19, 2009 | No CommentsEldar Murtazin, the man/legend behind Mobile Review has snagged one of those already leaked SE Kurara handsets, and he's got some juicy info to share with the rest of us. Apparently, the CPU on that little goer is a Cortex A8, backed by 256MB of RAM and a PowerVR graphics processor. It's no surprise then that the HD label we saw earlier has been corroborated by 720p video recording and playback capabilities, and the Symbian S60 interface is said to "fly." Eldar promises fuller impressions and more imagery by tomorrow, and indicates the second half of February as the likely landing date for the new handset, with a price point around €500 ($745) in Europe.

Sony Ericsson Kurara suffers leakage, reveals HD label?
Posted on November 5, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets, Sony Ericsson, Symbian
Boy, we sure do love our early glimpses of pre-release hardware, and today we have not one, but two sources of purported pictures of the Sony Ericsson Kurara. Touted as a sibling to the Satio, the Kurara is mooted to have a 3.5-inch AMOLED touch-sensitive screen, 8.1 megapixel camera and, wait for it, 720p video recording. The image above seems to confirm this with a big "HD" inscription next to the camera lens, but that label is missing in the gallery below. We'll just put that inconsistency down to the extremely early samples on show, and start getting all frothed up in excitement over the possible UX inclusion on this Symbian S60 device when it starts selling in the first half of 2010.
