  • Sprint nixes the Nexus One

    Sprint nixes the Nexus One

Back in March, Sprint officially confirmed that they were going to pick up Google's then much-touted super phone, the Nexus One. Hurray! Excitement! Then Sprint went and announced the EVO 4G, a handset which belittles the Nexus One on just about every front. Suddenly, everyone seemed to lose interest in a Sprint Nexus One -- including Sprint, it seems.

T-Mobile myTouch Slide to come in three colors?

Man, I can't remember any phone in recent history for which details and pics have leaked as frequently as they have for the myTouch Slide. This thing's not even official yet, but we know more about it than a celebrity stalker knows about their stalkee's underwear drawer. The latest bit of knowledge, added just today: color variations.

    Beginner’s guide to barefoot running

Beginners Guide to Five Fingers – The good lads over at BirthdayShoes.com put together an interesting presentation on VFFs and barefoot running. It’s fairly concise and nicely designed so I’ll excuse the fact that “free ebooks” are pretty dumb generally. The [beginner's guide] is a twenty page e-book aimed at V5F “newbies” because let’s face it, [...]

Holy wow! AT&T admits NYC/San Fran 3G service sucked

A recent AT&T earnings call consisted of a lot of talk talk talk but one slide stands out: it essentially admits that 3G in San Francisco and New York sucked ween AKA were both far below their official performance objective. Although I can’t figure out what the actual “Performance Objective” truly is based on this slide, [...]

Do you want to place an iPhone into a Game Boy Advance? You can!

The lads at Geekologie stuffed an iPhone into a Game Boy Advance, thereby proving that stuffing things into things is just the most funnest thing in the world. Video after the jump. Why did he do it? Who knows! But I’ve always said stuff getting put into stuff is the way we can make this country great [...]

  • Android 2.1 moves down food chain, ROM now ported to G1 (update: hoax)

Android 2.1 moves down food chain, ROM now ported to G1 (update: hoax)

Future, meet your past. The fine lads at xda-developers forums have ported the Android 2.1 ROM -- you know, the updated OS from Nexus One that everyone's been talking about lately -- all the way to the original G1. Right now it's being dubbed version 0.9999 since it's still lacking A2SD, CompCache, and SWAP... and if you're feeling confused by the terminology, it might be best to not try this at home just yet. Creator Teh Dust has also removed a few things for the sake of making it more lightweight, including Car Home, Live Boot, and high resolution wallpapers / apps that don't jive with the G1 anyway. Willing, curious, and wanting to impress your Droid-carrying friends? File's hiding in plain sight, waiting for you.

Update: Quoth the raven, 'twas a hoax and nothing more.

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

  • QiGi’s Smartbook is more like a WinMo 6.5-powered MID

QiGi’s Smartbook is more like a WinMo 6.5-powered MID

We're going on the assumption here that the lads and ladies over at QiGi haven't actually heard that "smartbooks" have a vaguely defined look and feel, as the outfit's latest handheld definitely looks nothing like the smartbooks that we've seen emerge over the past few months. In fact, the Windows Mobile 6.5-equipped device looks more like a MID than anything else, boasting a 5-inch 800 x 480 display, only a few face-mounted buttons and 1GB of memory. Hit the read link if you're interested in a poorly translated review, and good luck finding one of these in the open market (at least with an English-language operating system).

Celio REDFLY for BlackBerry tested: it’s not the solution you weren’t looking for anyway

The lads at jkontherun took that new connection between BlackBerrys and the REDFLY for a spin. Prognosis? Not so good -- bad display rendering and trackpad controls, which are basically the two reasons you'd considering picking this up in the first place. Celio fans, a rather unpleasant read lies ahead should you choose to proceed past the link.

The Ultimate iPhone Car Kit: Complete remote control via the iPhone

Is there anything the iPhone can't do? Sure you can store your files, add contacts, and play Civilization Revolution on it but did you know you could drive your car with it? The lads from Engineer Awesome rigged up a Oldsmobile Delta 88 to run entirely by remote control and then created an iPhone app so they could drive the sucker with a few choice taps and swipes.

  • USB Conch

    USB Conch

From: Ralph To: Piggy CC: Lads on the Beach It has come to my attention that some of your team has been using a USB Conch. Please note that it is against company policy to install or use outside hardware on company PCs and using an unauthorized shell-shaped USB hub on your PC is a direct violation of this policy. While we originally used the conch in the early years after the wreck, IT has decided that prior the launch of Windows 7 and the roll-out in accounting, food gathering, and HR later this year we will have to crack down on unauthorized hardware.
