Sanyo’s new 2K projector boasts industry-high 10,000 lumens brightness
Posted on June 9, 2010 | No CommentsIf you thought the Sanyo 3D projector we've shown you a couple of days ago was impressive, think again: today the company announced [JP] the LP-HF1000L, a projector for "professional use" that not only boasts 2K (2,048×1,080) resolution but also produces 10,000 lumens brightness. According to Sanyo, no other projector in the industry can keep up with that number (via AC 100V, at least).

Better LCD TVs? New CCFL backlights to compete with LEDs
Posted on February 19, 2010 | No Comments
Japan's Sanken Electric has developed a new type of cold cathode fluorescent lamp (CCFL) backlight for LCD TVs that's as power-efficient as LED backlights but is supposedly up to 60% cheaper to mass-produce.
Approximately 90% of all LCD TVs currently on the market have CCFL backlights. A 32-inch LCD TV usually requires six CCFL tubes, but Sanken says their new lamps are so efficient that only two of them are enough (one at the top and another one at the bottom of the device).

Sanyo releases $50,000 projector with 12,000 lumens brightness
Posted on October 20, 2009 | No Comments
Sanyo has rolled out a number of projectors in the past months, but brightness-wise, their new LP-XF1000 [press release in English] beats them all. The dual lamp projector boasts not less than 12,000 lumens, made possible by two 330W lamps. Needless to say, this is the industry’s highest brightness (in an AC 100V device).

Sanyo presents world’s first carbon fiber electric bike (and a foldable model)
Posted on July 24, 2009 | No Comments
Sanyo landed a huge hit with its eneloop brand that includes a number of "green" products, such as lamps, batteries or even Wii controllers. In the past few months, the company also introduced electric bikes that featured eneloop technology, one of which it wanted to sell outside Japan as well.
Now Nippon gets another two eneloop-branded bikes [JP], a carbon fiber model and a foldable bicycle. The way both models work is the same: Every time you drive downhill or decelerate, the electric motor switches to a dynamo, allowing for regenerative charging. Both bikes are pretty cool but have one disadvantage: The hefty price tag.

Stylish and eco-friendly: Sanyo’s eneloop lamps (video)
Posted on June 30, 2009 | No Comments
Sanyo Japan today announced the strange, vase-like "eneloop lamp" [press release in English] that can be used both as a regular interior light or as a flashlight (when you pick it up and hold it like one). As a third option, the device also serves as a "healing lamp" once you switch from white to blue lighting.
The eneloop lamp can be charged wirelessly by putting it on its charging stand. Sanyo says two eneloop AA batteries are enough to power the futuristic device for 6 hours in flashlight mode, up to 45 hours in white light mode and up to 16 hours in blue light mode.
